Pro tip: Jam a 45 degree pvc elbow into the outer box overflow bulkhead and point it towards the secondary drain. This will prevent the primary siphon drain from whirlpooling and will drastically reduce noise levels without noticeably restricting flow.

Looks like it fixes all the issues with the Eclipse overflows. I have the Eclipse L and it makes the water level too low for my liking and the rear box has bowed a little over 3 years. The adjustable water level and bracing on the rear box makes this a bug improvement. I wonder if the hole size and spacing is the same as the Eclipse overflows.

I would have like to see how you exit from the overflow, across a desk surface and down. My thinking is that would be a very noisy config.
@Mike__B3 жыл бұрын
Wow that thing is THIN, my worry would be that you actually get flow problems through that box due to how thin it is I mean if it's 5/8" thick, I'm guessing at most they have 3/16th acrylic so that leaves a 1/4" ribbon for water to flow through. Also not sure if it's just me but that overflow box looks a little low on the outside. Lastly wish they didn't include the hole saw, and instead go for a cheaper product, I could see using these on multiple tanks but I don't exactly need a new hole saw for each one.
@CrustaceonsReef3 жыл бұрын
I’m getting around 500gph through mine with no issues. I could see it supported more than that which is crazy because it really is that thin. The only downside is not being able to quiet down the wet side of the overflow.

Shouldn’t there be 3 gaskets total? One for the inside of aquarium, one that sits between the aquarium and the overflow box. With the last gasket going on the nut side of the overflow box?
@CrustaceonsReef3 жыл бұрын
No because the gasket between the outer box and the tank wall is enough. Figure the other two gaskets you mentioned would have to leak past the middle gasket too.
@ivanlopez74063 жыл бұрын
@@CrustaceonsReef I've been searching for this answer for a couple of months now and finally see someone explaining it. My Eclipse came with only one seal per bulkhead coming out from the overflow and I've been wandering if I was missing something. So having one seal on the outside of the tank between the tank and the drain box should be enough?
@CrustaceonsReef3 жыл бұрын
@@ivanlopez7406 That’s correct. I used an eclipse prodigy on my 55g. That overflow came with just one gasket for the single hole. No leaks.

Hey BRS, does it really hide the water level on an Aqueon type rimmed tank? Bottom of weir teeth look suspiciously low when it's turned to raise the water level as high as possible... monster flow required to ride the water level high on those teeth? The way you mounted it on that 10 gallon, you couldn't go higher because the top of the internal box is hitting the rim lip, but it doesn't look high enough to keep the water line just above the lower level of the rim. The TOP of the teeth are barely above the lower edge of the rim. They rate it for 20 gallons and up, but I just measured and my 20G Long only gives you 1/4" deeper rim versus the 10G. 1/4" doesn't look like enough either. Great looking kit for a rimless...
@BRStv3 жыл бұрын
Ultimately, it depends on the size overflow you go with and the surface area of the tank. We haven't tried this overflow on many rimmed tanks, so it's hard to say exactly where the water line will be in relation to the black trim on each model of tank. From our experience, using an internal overflow box where you drill your own holes for the bulkheads will give you much more flexibility. Downside is that it's no where near as low profile. www.bulkreefsupply.com/cpr-retrofit-overflow-box-with-backing.html

I got myself the L version , the bulkheads provided are a couple inches bigger than the stated 1 inch diameter . I couldn't find any pvc pipe to fit in as the included emergency pipe fits . i am afraid of a leak if I just glue them like that . I might need to get some smaller bulkheads . what do you guys think ?
@ThomasBReef3 жыл бұрын
The 1" ID (inner diameter) bulkheads are the ones inside of the external box; the bulkheads that pass through the aquarium to hold the box to the tank are 1.5" ID. Now, the part that is likely the most confusing, is that they are made to accept 1" and 1.5" ID PVC pipe, and once you factor in the wall thickness of the pipe, that means the actual ID of those bulkheads is larger than their listed ID. Plumbing is such a wonderfully confusing world...

@@ThomasBReef i just glued the heck out of them to the metric 32mm pipe and ther is zero leaking they are holding pretty well . Thanks.
