Im a 5th generation kiwi, my family came to live in NZ Auckland in the 1860's and there has been far worse storms than what has happen this year! 1860's the earth was cooler and the low weather depressions of low to mid nine hundreads hPa where worse with very heavy down pours of rain than today - and in 2023 there are low depressions of high 990hPa because of the warming of the earth. Also during the last century people lived on higher ground and built houses on taller foundations of at least 1 meter to avoid flooding. 100years ago only 1 million people in NZ ...1 billion in the world. Today over 1 milllion in Auckland and 8 billion in the world. Building houses on 150mm concrete slab on low land that turns into a lake is so dumb... WAKE UP PEOPLE and buy the correctly built house and stop trusting politicians who have no commonsense. Plan your own future and build correctly dont buy the shit box on a concrete slab or you will be sorry.

The weather is being used as a political tool. I have seen much worse than this before. Same in other parts of NZ. People tend to jump to conclusions about the world based on what happened yesterday. If they looked at history they would see this is just nature doing what it does well in NZ.

People were expecting the worst rain 4-7pm. It decided to come down midday. Everyone got a text advising to go home early before the forecasted stuff hit at rush hour. If they'd stayed, and we'd had that extra 35=70mm...bad situation.
