Absolutely delighted with how this came out... especially since it took multiple months to edit to the standard these athletes deserve. Who needs media credentials? Also, it has been 3 years so I have followed a lot of these people since then!

I'm not a rower, and I'm a year late to this video, but somehow the algorithm brought me here. You tell some great stories. I failed to qualify to my own national team by one spot last year, so the looks on some of these athletes faces hit home hard. I hope in the future you get the accreditation you deserve, so you can keep telling amazing stories and showing some amazing athletes.

Dudeeee! So good. God I wish you were given media credentials, such a missed opportunity by the rowing world. A lot of people don’t realize the potential behind a story until they’ve already lived thru it and it’s too late. Bravo for seizing the opportunity and sending it. Keep innovating, more and more things like these will come once everyone else wakes up and sees what you can do

One story I have that I didn’t mention was Tom Pezsek’s, the stroke of the US Men’s Pair. He went to the 2012 London games in the pair and finished 8th overall. He missed out on the 2016 Rio games in the pair by a boat length in the US Olympic trials. He missed the 2020 Tokyo games by a boat length here at FOQR, so it was just heart wrenching to see.

Nice Hommage to my home lake where I grew up. Great episodes and looks of the different faces of the lake. Super videos of „sudden death“. I wished you had added some of the history to the lake. Basically two men created the technical infrastructure to make this lake a rowing paradise. One was my father Karl Peyer, technical director from 1947 to 1974. The other Dr. Herrmann Heller who was in charge of the first ever Rowing World Championships in 1962. The lake became so famous that in 1963 Richard Nixon came to visit the lake. If you need add. Info. I am gladly at your disposal Kindest regards Alex Peyer

This is super cool! Thanks for capturing this! I am a new rower so if anyone could explain, do athletes who have already "qualified" at their country for their olympic trials come here? Or do people who didn't make their olympic trials come here for a last chance? Thanks so much!
@EamonGlavin
@EamonGlavin 2 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked it! In regards to your question, the specific boat classes that are qualified to race at the Olympics do not race here. The process of going to the Olympics starts at the previous world championships with a specific amount of places available in each event. For example, the top 5 places in the eight qualify their country to race an eight in the next year's Olympics, and there are only 7 available spots. If a boat got 6th (e.g. the New Zealand's Men's 8), they must race at FOQR and place top 2 in order to race at the Olympics. Winning a specific national selection regatta race in your country (e.g. the US Olympic trials) usually means you win the sole right to represent your country in that boat class for that specific year on the international level. Kara Kohler won the women's single at US Olympic trials, and because the US Women's Single was qualified for the Olympics, she won the right to race in Tokyo. My friends Jasper and Zach won the light men's double, but because the US Men's Light Double wasn't qualified for the Olympics, had to race at FOQR. 2nd place in the US Olympic trials is unfortunately the end of the road for the Olympics in that boat class. But that doesn't mean you can't race in another boat class if the system is set up that way, like Gevvie Stone who got 2nd in the women's single US Trials and then 1st in the women's double US Trials, booking her ticket to the Olympics.

I wasted twelve years of my life on rowing. I started in high school and then crewed for a prominent rowing university in the States. I thought I might somehow manage to get a spot on the men's national team but it never happened. When I put the oars away for the final time and walked out of the boathouse I felt sadness and uncertainty. After a few years away from the sport it began to dawn on me that I should have been playing golf or doing some other sport that I could have used and enjoyed for the rest of my life. In the end I was a bit resentful of the time I wasted on a sport that ultimately had no place in my real adult life. It pains me to say that because I LOVED rowing. My whole identity was was too tightly woven into that sense of team and stroke perfection. I was an idiot to even let myself dream.

Women’s lightweight double s the best event. Women are better rovers than men, And as lights they do not have a weight advantage over theincompetition, and doubles are the most elegant boats on the water

Did you watch at Vesper boat house, I know some boat houses look the same but that looked ALOT like Vesper. I row out of there with my school, also this video was amazing, got me really excited for crew practice tomorrow. Also I’m trying to get duel citizenship in Ireland right now!!

Excelent coverage of the sport. I've seen these rowing teams for the first time a while a go while moving to The Netherlands. so I was curious how it works. why do you always film them from behind? why not get their facial expression as they are threading waters. I guess that's a way to capture the intensity of the sport. Regardless I feel inspired to go out and make some videos of my own.

Would love to see their faces and reactions, but I had to be in very specific locations to film, so that wasn't always possible!
