I relate to Neil so much on this topic. I also suspect my Si and Fe demons are masculine. Randomness definitely enrichmes my life. I know some ISTJs who could happily eat the same thing for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day of their lives. Even thinking about it just bores me to tears. The STJs in my life like to help with practical problem solving through shopping (the solution is always sensory!) but anytime I've let an STJ go grocery shopping for me, they either buy the same damn things over and over again until I get sick of them, or when they discover I like something, they buy such a huge bulk quantity of that thing that I am guaranteed to get sick of it. Usually by the time they notice and get used to the idea that I like something new, I've already become tired of that thing and moved on to something else. Needless to say, I prefer to do my own shopping. When I go into any store and a sales associate or employee asks me if I need help finding anything, I politely decline, "No thank you. I'm just looking." But on the inside I'm thinking, "Fuck off and let me make a decision by myself without being pressured to buy crap I don't want, or what some stranger thinks I would like, and without someone hovering over me and breathing down my neck." 🤐 I don't mind the suggested ads as much as he does, but I make a point of never clicking on ads anyway. I'll even inspect the source code in an ad and copy/paste the destination URL into a different browser to avoid the tracking and deprive the middle-man out of their ad revenue. 😈 Plus less risk of viruses and unwanted cookies. But when it comes to politics and cultural issues, media suggestions predicated on the assumption that people want to consume the same things they've looked at before predictably is the driving force in creating "echo chambers," where people are exposed to only like-minded ideas from their own ideology, which is dangerous in its capacity to foster confirmation bias, lack of understanding or awareness of alternative viewpoints, and lack of empathy towards outsiders who subscribe to different beliefs. I highly suggest throwing a wrench in the algorithm occasionally by looking up something completely different from what you would normally view. I'm genuinely interested in both sides of an argument, so luckily I've been confusing enough to KZbin to get recommended content from both left and right creators.
@LemonMeIon

Heather Bryant, I feel you and nice rant. I’m an ENFP that grew up with an ISTJ mother and ISFP father. You start to appreciate the STJ more in comparison because they are at least efficient and consistent. Believe me, ISFPs can be just as stubborn and annoying because they will go down every aisle of the store, look at everything, and buy more than what they need just because it’s on sale. You give them any hint of a preference and they will assume that’s the most important thing and will buy it for months (usually getting the brand or details wrong) and accommodate to try and fix everything. You can’t hate them for this because they mean well, but you eventually realize that you can’t tell them anything because they are meddlers that take everything into their hands and do it their way. Like damn people just let me get it myself and live my own life lol.

I'm the opposite. Once I find something I like, I buy it over and over. I love when recommendations and coupons are sent to me based on "known information." That way I don't have to think about it - just send it to me already. And randomness? Mostly a waste of time and energy.

I have some neat sounding theme of terms for this, something that I used with my correspondent about this stuff: Oe vs Oi, Infinity vs Eternity. In life there's an infinite amount of things to do, see, etc. in the short time it is there, and the Oe's want it all, while the Oi's want to find the best, and hold on to them for as long as possible. De and Di I thought of as Society and Identity but that was a little obvious.

@@youareloved5462 Sure, I'll do what I can. De and Di are about worth, where does it come from? Validation or Confidence? Society vs Identity: De's find their worth in a group, want to be part of something greater than themselves. Di's find theirs within themselves, viewing themselves as larger than life. Not sure how accurate that is, but it's something.

@@XxZekeKnightxX Thank you for answering this fast haha ! I can see what you mean, it makes total sense! I want to share with you my little experiment! :D My family doesn't know anything about OPS. I am not a great typer, nor I am certain of my typing. But using your analogy, just explaining what eternity and infinity meant, my family and I were able to sort of Oe / Oi type most people in our lives. The cool thing being that my Oi/Oe guesses about my family members were right, even my mother whom I find super hard to type, was a pain to type for everyone. I am "self-typed" Oi (using external opinions of me, I was able to understand that in the general people spectrum, I play more an Oi game than an Oe one, although since I am typed as a decider, I am supposed to be relatively balanced between those two right?). AND WOW BRO, the guess was right ! My family members were like "Oh you are so much of an Eternal oriented type of person, but still able to do some infinity stuff if needed". So yeah, sorry that is a long message to simply say that your analogy works like Usain Bolt on the track!!! Have a nice day buddy! :D

I definitely feel this way. Recently I was frustrated by how difficult it is for me to “discover” a new book on my kindle device compared to a bookstore. Similarly, the KZbin algorithm serves up too many similar videos and I think, “I’ve already learned about that.” Or recently I bought a couch online, so now I’m getting tons of couch ads. I find that baffling too. I’ve already bought a couch. I’m not going to buy another one...?? I think it’s essentially the known versus the unknown. These systems don’t provide me with a sensation of exploring, but instead give me a sensation of hemming in or narrowing down.

The best example i have is remembering how at the job there was a moment where a guy was repeatedly asking me day after day that i must provide him with my work log for a day like "what i've been working on today as specific as possible". I asked "why do you need this so much?" - "So i can controll the workflow and notice who needs help and where we can accelerate". I answered "i'm sorry. I don't work like this. If you like to controll your co-workers pace - why not doing their job yourself altogether?". We haven't spoken again ever since :D I hate ppl like him... EDIT: Oh yeah, every time in every app i ALWAYS switch that thing off immidietly that says "send anonymous statistics". Come to think of it - does not wanting to read any manuals for the sake of exploring stuff on my own hoping to stumble upon things count too? Then again - i hate trying new food. But mostly cuz i have stomach problems and know that i better not try anything that might hurt my stomach again. But again - i don't like to stick to the same food longer than one day (or even one meal in day at most i think)

Einsame M All good my dude I am an ENFP with an ENTJ brother who considers himself a feeler so I get it and you’re probably both at times. In argumentation, Fi doms just want you to acknowledge their feels and apologize, while Te doms care most about their reasoning being understood and will put the emotions aside completely for the sake of winning the argument. In the end, we get along pretty well though!
@heatherbryant4197
@heatherbryant4197 4 жыл бұрын
I would definitely make a distinction between debating and arguing here. Arguing to be heard and eventually have the other person agree you are right, or validate your feelings, is different, IMO. Then you get those IxxJ monologues where they don't even want to hear you talk, unless they're demanding an explanation for why you wasted their time or something. Ne/Ti on the other hand, really wants that back & forth. They want to hear your response to their criticisms or critiques because it's all an idea-gathering exercise to get at the truth. I think Ne/Ti and Ti/Ne are often misunderstood when they play devil's advocate. Some people seem to think it stems from malicious intentions, when in reality they're usually just questioning everything to figure out what's actually true with your beliefs the same way they do with their own beliefs. It's like quality-control. So they end up confused when people don't appreciate it the same way they do and even get upset because they think it's some mean-spirited game.

I take recommendations from people if they'll explain why the thing is a good idea, but I don't do new things just for the sake of it. I also 'try new things' if I've been planning to do it. I probably *really* need someone in my life who'll pester me into doing actual new things so I can't keep wheedling out of it. When I actually have in my life literally gone into something knowing nothing before, it was really good for me, even though I felt like a fish out of water... it was exhilarating. You have no idea how many times I have heard the frase: "I never now what you re going to do" or, "you always surprise me", but also, "I can't figure you out", "Can't wrap my mind around you" and so...

There are things I will always buy because I know it tastes the best, but these algorithms keep getting my interests wrong, so I have to search specifically for new things that interest me, so it can be added to the recommended. I get what he means though. A lot of times I want to look at what they have, sample things and see if there are some new things I might like. That's how I found out I like merlot, before that I was always getting sweet white and rose. The app would recommend what's popular which is dry white or what I got b4, not the other things I like merlot and port and liqueurs. He's really extreme though LOL. Indian food always lamb korma, pilau rice, garlic nan and mango lassi, can't beat it.

So interesting listening to this as an intp, because I get everything he is saying on like a “this clicks with me” level, but the Ne on crack scares me lol and like the tracking just doesn’t really bother me that much. If I get a coupon for something I don’t want I just ignore it lol. If it’s for something I want, but I’m feeling like I want to try something else, I also just ignore it. If I want to try new wines I’ll go to a tasting or ask a sommelier. If I’m in the mood for a Cabernet maybe I’ll try a different wine than I did last week. It’s just not that serious 😂. If you don’t want the same thing, just get something else. Don’t rely on a coupon ad to teach you about how many different kinds of wine there are, if you actually care. Don’t rely on a grocery store catalogue.

Im an entp. And yeah. I dont ever accept help. Because i know exactly what i want _when i see it_. And even if i dont know what i want i like to see what options are available to me so that in that moment i can make a choice dependinng on what suits me best or inspires me. I wont say i would get that worked up about it if i got coupons based on stuff i baught before - because why say no to a discount LOL! That can be useful sometimes! but it does get a little annoying when i've googled a couple of things simply out of curiosity and suddenly all my adds pop up about it. I usually just ignore it though. Got more important things to do than to gripe about marketing schemes ahaha

I'm an ISTJ and this video makes me cringe like crazy... Though I do agree with his rage with the coupons offering the things you already buy. It's like in KZbin - ALL my "Recommended for you" videos on KZbin are videos I already watched, which is REALLY annoying because I do want to find new videos that relate to things I like. But "showing me coupons denies my freedom"? Or maybe you can just... look for other things yourself? Not that hard. Nowadays you can look for coupons ahead of time in some online sites.

If you didn't think of buying something before, it's because you don't need it, it's not essential to your survival. Why would you feel the need to buy something just because you have never seen it before? How is that taking away your freedom? I mean, if I define freedom as the act of choosing what to buy based on what you need to survive in the world or to achieve a goal, then buying and buying and buying for no other reason that the newness of it keeps you, in fact, at the opposite end of freedom. Buying or "gathering" compulsively keeps you a prisoner in a neverending cycle of expenditure. *Mic drop

You think you’ve got us Ne’s pegged and fit a framework, but little do you know we’re actively plotting against you... at random I have slowly accumulated an ever growing list of odd traditions and routines I follow without fail. This short part near the end just taught me why no one I ever argue with ever seems to understand what an analogy is for, and instead starts to say "no that analogy is wrong because to agree with my perspective you have to change this and this and that about it so that the exact opposite happens". And I'm just trying my best to explain that the point of the analogy is to demonstrate a principle is valid or invalid, not to give a one-to-one representation of whatever it is that you have in your head. Turns out all the S people don't even think an analogy about a car crash is about a principle, instead the car crash is supposed to be something to have an opinion about, and that opinion needs to match their existing opinion: that I am wrong and stupid. Perhaps all the people I argue with are Si, refusing to let me bother their carefully established opinions about OBJECT with my nasty abstract principles that are nothing like OBJECT as they know it.
