You have just witnessed perfection. For those who weren't there to experience it: Life really WAS this elegant back then---in song...in manners...in the very way we dressed and comported ourselves. Why, we even dressed up when we travelled by airplane. Eydie's performance here sums up the classiness of that entire era.

I must get in on this conversation, you are absolutely right and it,s sickening that especially now that today,s young people 35 and under don,t understand any of this! From way back up till the end of the 1980s this entire world especially the U. S. people got dressed up when they went out to an important place and gave respect where they went and especially to an event like right here and seeing and hearing Eydie Gorme and her fabulous husband Steve Lawrence perform was a moment of magic! It was because that generation had full-respect for life/living, having had endured 5 years of horrible war in Europe and the Pacific, then almost immediately, had to deal with the Korean war. @@dannybex Streisand with her nasal voice ? Gorme was totally better singer than Streisand. Streisand had more publicity and made a movie career yes, but not the best singer , and notice that by 1982/83 Streisand was only 40 and the voice was in pretty decline, then in 1986 she was only 44 and in her concert "One voice" there was no voice anymore. In 1982 Gorme was 54 and her voice remained strong as ever and remained even strong when she was in her sixties. (Streisand in her sixties was simply voiceless)

After a lifetime surrounded by music, moved and moulded by a myriad of singers, songs, and lyrics, I recently woke up to the realization that of all the voices and interpreters of popular song that I have ever heard, there is one, and only one who, in my humble opinion, ranks as The Greatest Of Them All. And yet, even considering the exhaustive body of work, all of it brimming with musical expression, uncanny phrasing and melodic elegance, at the peak of it, there stands one glorious glimpse of the perfection that the human voice can attain as a vehicle for musical, poetic and emotional interpretation. And even if Eydie Gormé has never, in my opinion. received just recognition for all that she was and accomplished, she did get a Grammy for this one.

I must have watched this particular performance 25 times. I don't have the most trained ear, but to me, this is absolute mastery. Every nuance of her (their) performance is perfect: every glance, every massaged note, the phrasing, the strings ( ahhh), the big outstretched arms finish ( that's Eydie, Lol), the soft notes aren't too soft, nor the loud ones too loud. I guess that's why I can't stop watching it. Talk about attention to detail! How much practice did that take? I saw Steve and Eydie twice live. I found them to be so fun and entertaining, very professional. Can't pick a favorite between the two. Why isn't there more music like this today??!!

I have been requested to support my opinion of why I stated that Ms. Gorme is the best singer ever. first let me say that this is just considering the pop music category. If it was any singer in any venue then there is no doubt that it would be Beverly Sills. In my opinion as a retired music teacher I submit that Eydie has ALL the technical attributes of vocalizing with the added dimension of "selling" a song. Barbara Streisand is a very close second. I would also like to state a few others that I love to hear them vocalize....Joe Stafford, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, Bea Waine & Nancy Wilson
