Gabe, the jack plate is not about shallow water. It performs 3 functions. 1. When on plane, the motor can be raised to reduce drag and increase top speed. It of course can be raised too high so that the prop slips. You will have to experiment with that. 2. The set back added between the transom and the motor reduces turbulence in the props path, and increasing efficiency. 3. It in effect makes the over all length of the boat longer, resulting in a more comfortable ride in rough water. Enjoy the new boat Crystal!
