I have used the Helix floor and HX stomp in the past. Now I use this Ampero 2 Stage. Upsides: So much easier to find a usable tone and make a preset. More scenes and buttons than the Hx Stomp, but much smaller and lighter than Helix floor. Downsides: Effect sounds built inside are just average at best. Usable but not Strymon quality. If you're a tone junkie, this won't cut it. But if live gigging is the main point and you want something simple to use and carry around, this is 'THE ONE'. p.s. - to get rid of the modeler feel, high end fizzle sound, go to the cab/ir block and adjust the high cut at about 6K~8K. It will sound so much better.

How does the amp and pedal models compare to hx stomp?
@johoch249 ай бұрын
@@CharLessMajor7Music I think the Hx stomp has better (and more) amp and pedal models, but I'm not the type to be super picky about my tone. Turns out 99% of the audience didn't know the difference between a Suhr and a Squier. So eventually I just wanted everything to be simple, and the Ampero is definitely easier to use.

thanks for the review. For the older ampero II stomp users the major problem with this new unit is that a lot of its features were missed promised updates for the II Stomp. Those "future updates" were never delivered. Ampero II Stomp are waiting for scenes and gapless transitions effects for more than an year now. The terrible stomp mode switch that terrifies everybody that use the unit to play live are also a promised fix. Both units share the same DSP power but Hotone support was really bad and never delivered what is being promised.
@BigMetalDaddy13019 ай бұрын
This. Also the updates and overall service/support are a joke compared to line 6 and others. Sold my first hotone ampero 2 (which i ordered as soon as it was available) and my second one which i've bought second hand 4 month ago. There is a lot missing, mostly like you've mentioned things that were promised. Ampero II feels like a "customer beta test at full price". Hate to admit that there is a reason why east Asian companies are referred to as "good as long as everything works and you don't have ask for support." Hope they will do better with the ampero II stage.
@EytschPi429 ай бұрын
all good information... obviously I can't know that when I just got the units and new nothing about that history. Sadly, one can generally expect this kind of thing from a chinese company. It is something one has to almost expect and accept with the lower price points they offer. Communication with a tech team there would also be difficult based on language barriers and timezones. None of this excuses broken promises of course.
@leondantas9 ай бұрын
@@EytschPi42 Thanks Henning. Most of the tech talk about updates were done on Hotone's Facebook page. They used to do a weekly live podcast and most of the features were promised to be delivered on a future update that never occurred. They stopped the weekly show and started to ban comments asking for the updates. The Ampero II Stomp is very hard to use on a live situation without risk of accidently enter on the "Bypassed" screen and ruin your gig. The unit has a great sound but lacks support. The Ampero II Stage was a surprise for all II Stomp owners, most of those new features were actually fixes that we asked they never delivered, instead chose to offer a new unit, with basically the same hardware, and forgot the old costumers.

It's crazy how many things they got right on the UI of the Ampero II Stage. There are 2 things that I've seen mentioned as potential issues in Leo Gibson's review, etc. The Pitch Shifting algorithm/accuracy is not as good as it needs to be. Also, there are some questions about excessive latency. These are probably things they can fix in an upgrade. Incredible value for money.

So glad I saw this. Looks/sounds amazing, tons o' features. Then I read a comment on here about it having the highest latency in the industry (with no supporting facts of course.). I kept hearing the name Leo Gibson. Check him out for reviews, Mark. Ok. He did a 23 amp modeling pedalboard latency shootout. Now this video is a year ago so it's before this particular came out...however I was surprised at the results. The best units on his list? Boss GT 1000, Boss GX 100, (those are like 1 ms), the Mooer GE 300 and 250 round out the top 6 best. #13 is the vaunted Quad Cortex followed by the Kemper Stage and Fractal FM3 at 3x the latency. And unknown Ampero is #18. So now, I'm looking at the Mooers.

I had the MG30....hated it and the menu diving. It took a long time to dial in. Yes it is 1/3 the cost of the Stage but this does far more and the UI is simple to use. You also do not need the Mwave Chocolate controller for Stage unlike the MG30 to access scenes. You only have 3 or 4 scenes on the MG30. Stage has seven and all assignable and accessible on the unit. I also had the Zoom G6 (returned it), Mooer G150 (sold it), both Zoom G1 Four and G2x Four (unusable) and picked up the Ampero Mini for a flyrig pedalboard. I ordered the Stage after seeing his other video featuring Mini, Stomp and Stage. This unit made sense to get.
