Thank you for always giving such clear reviews! I agree, it’s nuts they they keep delivering such good updates, and the cabs have really improved. Was a great update for really usable simple stuff.

I finally got me a Helix this month. I was hesitant due to it being an 8 year old unit. I also took a long time to forgive Line 6 for dumping support for the Firehawk. I was tempted by the Stomps but the extra Power and twiddly bits on the big one swayed me in the end. The Yamaha rotaries were more subtle sounding in real life than Leslies. My mate Danu used the smaller single rotor Yamaha with guitar to good effect back in the 80s. Amazing to watch the internals on that thing. A whole speaker whirling around on a counter-weighted beam !! Line 6’s 145 Leslie is my favourite rotary so far in the Helix.

It's arguable which modeling platform is best but when it comes to manufacturer and community-driven support, Line 6 is the clear winner.

I've had my Helix for 7 1/2 years and if it were to die today I'd have another one ordered within minutes. It keeps getting better and better and is the central hub of everything I do. It's terrific as a standalone product but also works great with plugins and products like Tonex or NAM.

Thanks Henning for another great video! I bought my Helix floor in 2019 and I started to have my doubts about the unit after buying a lot of IRs, presets and tweaking. It wasn't until 3.15 that the sound quality made a big improvement and been up hill since. I use all 4 FX for an array of drive and modulation pedals, 2 of those FXs for a stereo split going to 2 H9s and sounds really good. Where I was real impressed is when I cut the FX's off and still maintained a high quality tone. I'm very appreciative to Line 6 for not abandoning us with $1600 unit and working to make the unit better. I know the day is coming soon that they will be forced to release a newer more powerful unit and I'm look forward to owning one.

The thing with the rotary speakers is that they emulate the cab, so with it in front of the amp model its like you are running your guitar in to a rotary speaker and then in to the front of the amp. Try using it in place of the cab instead or on a parallel path with the cab, since i started that i've realized how good those blocks are!

DSP lanes- you're correct :) Big Helix has 2 DSPs as you've mentioned, each lane has their own DSP. Stomp has 1 however- in 3.5 they've reduced the IR and cabs dsp requirement = more DSP options for each preset :)

It is but they specify in the documentation it was made as a stereo effect and it's not intended to replace a cabinet. Which they say makes it more flexible if you have a Cab you like already.

Loved the delicious 3.5 Cab Update, and now this 3.6 is like champagne! I use an HX Stomp. I got the Helix Native software several months ago and was waiting on installing it until a couple weeks ago. It adds unimaginable power to using Line 6 Modelers. Thanks Yamaha, and excellent review of the latest Update.

On the HX Stomp at least the new cab system in 3.5 used much less DSP than the old system. That's my experience with the device.

One thing i can add - as Linux user - I can now use my HX Stomp as an audio interface without any problems This was a problem I had with a Yamaha THR amp from years ago, I had to tweak a file so it works That's not going to be an issue for most people, because they will be using Windows or Mac OS to connect but for me, it is a big issue, as I don't (and won't) have computers running Windows or Mac OS I think this is because Yamaha buying Line6 has added resources to fix issues with compatibility, so you do not have to be tied to a propriety Operating System in order to be able to connect to them. However I really started replying to this because of the issue with Bluetooth latency.... In the UK, during lockdown, my band rehearsed and learned new songs using Jamulus connecting to a server running on a Raspberry PI Latency was difficult. Add in bluetooth latency on top and it would have been very very very difficult to try and play in time with each other, because of the inherent lag in bluetooth (to android phones and bluetooth headphones at least) Have Yamaha / Line6 really sorted that?

for the new rotary you could just redirect the signal to the second line, move cabs there and in the first line you would have enough processing power

I preordered thise yamahas, looking forward. Just to clarify they use a normal wireless signal to transmit the audio (2.4ghz? I couldnt find it in writing). Bluetooth is supported to sync with your phone or whatever for backing audio like normal headsets, with normal bluetooth latency. The base station is what plugs into your amp or other device and sends the fast wireless signal. Like a wireless gaming headset with extra bluetooth on top.

@@EytschPi42 I'm finding that for the play back (YT videos) a PA speaker and a digital amp together sound pretty good. It feels like it counters the YT compression. As far as the feed from the Helix the same combo (clean digital amp and a good FRFR) works well with a little tweaking.

in HIS case it might be true... if you test it with high gain and drop D power chords. Once you bring in other sounds, a different style of playing, more dynamics and more complex chords, the differences become more apparent. He tested and experienced a very special and limited case.

ha - a bit later in your video ( about 16:55) - cab based on a G25 2x12 - "I don't really care what it's based on as long as it sounds good" That is the reality.of a HX - a HX Stomp in my situation - faff around. twiddle with it. find something that sounds right and inspires you.

I’ve been working on AI models as of late. So far I have managed to make any guitar sound exactly the same as Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock and SRV Austin city limits and a bunch of other random guitars. I’m working on more but it’s been a struggle. My dad who is 75, has been working on AI that would allow you to play anything and even if you mess up the plug in will correct it. As long as you in time it will be corrected. We are getting there people.

Still prefer tonex amp sounds more. Althiugh i like where this is going. Had a fun weekend comparing different generations of amp sim devices, and without a doubt profiling so far wins. Most harmonic content, most dynamic range , and especially in higher register different profiles behave and alsound differently, where on amp sims , and especially in helix, one gets a feeling that all amps are exactly the same. So at leat in this home, helix does effects, tonex gives the amp sound and palmer gives the cab sim.

I disagree with there being too many amps and options, and i'm still missing some things ib there, because they all have a place and creative use. Great to see a bass review though. You should do a bass deep dive, because no one else has done much worth watching in that area. Oh by the way, it feels like you're enjoying making videos much more since your Robinson Crusoe adventure!

Every new guitar you buy at Sweetwater is already a Demo that has been returned and polished back up. Sweetwater sells the same serial numbers as new as long as they can get away with it. Ever buy a new guitar at Sweetwater and you get a plain box with a Sweetwater paper saying the original box is not up to standards, LOL well its all marked up, labeled up, opened, and showing signs of 3 trips already. I have three of these so called new guitars from Sweetwater, and I have even seen the ones I sent back, in the new section again with the serial number I had at my house. I take pictures.

Maybe my ears are faulty, but I really don't like these sounds. I had a Stomp for a while and could never get a decent edge of breakup tone. And these sounds remind me of that time. But that's just me, though.
@void_snw
@void_snw Жыл бұрын
Don't know what it is, but in edge of breakup tones their modeling has a weird crossover distortion thing going on that you can only really hear with headphones - throw it through a cab and the speaker kinda erases that. That can be reduced with the bias knob though. Another thing is that a lot of the common amps for that style (marshall and fender) are modeled without their bright caps, because the specific amps they chose to model had theirs clipped. To me, that makes the clean and edge of breakup sounds out of those pretty meh. I love bright caps :p Once I moved on to other amps and found good IRs (the old cabs were horrible, the new ones made me forget about my IRs lol) it was all fine. Since got an SV20 that I use almost all the time, but it also made me reevaluate a lot of the nuances in the models. In this video I wanna argue the compressor at the start of the chain is probably adding some unpleasantries. I personally don't like the sound of 90% of compressor sounds anywhere.
@StratsRUs
@StratsRUs Жыл бұрын
Sag and Bias help me a lot with that.And the new Cabs, with judicial mic placing. I understand though, the edge of break up thing is the holy grail I wait on.But this Helix is still pretty beautiful
