You answer my question with this video. If I want to get get some Doom sounds to go with my synth, this is the closest True Tone to a Sunn pedal. Either into a digital power amp pedal, or the desk. (Octave, rat, maybe a boost pedal chain).
@StormJH111 жыл бұрын
The California is cool. I wasn't really after that Mesa Boogie sound, but it probably creates the most dramatic transformation in your signal of the four pedals. Really deep and full-sounding cleans, and it gets pretty dirty too.

My favorite current setting for this pedal is: Bass = 9 oclock MId = 12 oclock Trebble = 9 oclock volume = as needed Voice = 3 to 4 oclock Gain = it's great at about 10 oclock, but dialed as needed. This is a boosted mid setting of course, but it is not actually boosting the mid frequency dial, so it has a different effect then boosting the mid all the way and leaving the bass an treble at noon. ymmv.

Hennig man, I just had a breakthrough with this line of pedals, you complained at the end that they aren't as open. If you run it at a high output 9v or even a 12v or 18v it gives the amp more headroom and dynamics. Even responded pretty well to my volume pot.
@arthurpiccio65987 жыл бұрын
Have you fried the pedal since then or is it still ok? Planning to buy one to run at 18v if yours is still fine.

@Jonathan-L6 жыл бұрын
I'd really love to know that as well ... I doubt that there's much difference. The EQ section would have to be the same, the master volume would be the same, so that leaves the voice & gain levels to make a point of difference, however I'm only speculating. And there's the case colour also!

Excuse me sir, I have a question, from all of the joyo pedals of this kind (american, british, california, Actone) which of those could be the best to play high gain guitar, my plan is to run my pedals into one of these but I sincerely don't know which one can be the best option :c I am searching for beatiful clean and almost clean tones to complement with other high gain pedals (joyo deluxe crunch/pocket metal)

Hey would this sound any good in front of a high gain amp, being used as a solo boost, it sounds like it would since it has that litte extra compression and you can boost it however much is necessary? Cheers, great video!

Well, it's an amp simulation pedal so probably not. You'd probably want the least tainted pedal going before a high gain amp. Get a tube screamer or something basic.

Hi Henning! Big fan of your demos here! I was wondering which pedal would respond to my needs better. In my case I'm playing bluesy-hard rock stuff through a cheap Spider II and while the clean sounds is quite OK, the overdriven sounds tend to extreme crappiness when playing live and loud, so I'm thinking of maybe using only the clean channel and putting a Harley Benton distortion pedal in front for the rockier songs. I'm used to kind of a early VH-George Lynch level of gain, not 70's clean but also not late 80's-early 90's fat and excessive, what do you think would be more suitable, the California, American, US Dream? They all sound great to me and I'm confused among so much greatness! Help!!
@EytschPi428 жыл бұрын
+pepins02 difficult... I might go for the British for rock stuff.... the American is really great too.

Tech21 is better. May not be more affordable but it is better. Vox's version of this is worth a look too as they have a valve in thiers and switches to turn on and off the built-in cabinet emulation. Vox is also not cheap either.

Hello Henning (EytschPi42)! I don't have a mesa boogie and can't afford to buy one. Is it possible to achive a sort of a cannibal corpse type of sound if i front end the california sound with a metal zone? Pat O' Brien front ends his mesa with a metal zone. May be, just may be, i can get a some what cannibal corpse kinda sound with such combination. I'm about to buy a california sound but it means a lot if i hear first from you. Thanks!
@EytschPi4211 жыл бұрын
I am not sure that is going to work. It might work, but in the end, the California doesn't behave like a Tube Amp, it just mimics one. The setup you are describing for Pat also sounds really horrible. WHY use a Metal Zone, which sounds like a saw in front a of a great amp like a Mesa Boogie. That metal pedal is really not great and it can only worsen the sound of a good amp... but if that is what you are going for I would try it. I have a video which compares metal pedals... look for it... called 9 Metal Pedal shootout
@duboyduboy11 жыл бұрын
EytschPi42 Thanks for the reply, Henning! My research on Pat's rig, is where i got the metal zone front ending a Mesa Boogie. i will look for that 9 metal pedal shootout video. Thanks again Henning!
@stuh8411 жыл бұрын
EytschPi42 Pat doesn't use the Metal Zone for its gain, its used entirely for shaping with the EQ on it. All of the drive is still coming from the Mesa, the EQ is just shaped before it gets to the Mesa.
@xxxpaps5 жыл бұрын
Well I have both these pedals and would say neither is perfect. The Cali sound is dark and muddy side but big and fat and the metal zone is notorious for being nasal fizzy and thin but now I think about it. After a little messing around with the knobs on both pedal. I think think this pairing could really produce something special. Now I know what I'm doing tomorrow :) U just might be a genius. Lol
