Our interpretation of the medieval song lyrics "Ez sint guotiu niuwe maere" by Heinrich von Veldeke (1150~ ca.1190) . The language you can hear is Middle High German.
This is new medieval music: an original text, a new melody based on (hopefully) medieval composing practices, and a modern arrangement.We set this medieval love song (Minnesang) bei Heinrich von Veldeke to new music, since there is no original music to go with it. It's not authentic, but what is?
"It is good news that the birds sing and spring is coming!" - that's what this lover says. But he has lost his love through his own fault, because he wanted too much. "Durh tumbheit", because of his foolishness, he has lost her favour.

English Translation
It is good news that the birds are singing freely wherever flowers can be seen. At this time of year it would be becoming to be happy which unfortunately I am not: My foolish heart has misguided me so that I have to suffer harshly and heavily whatever is coming to me.
The most beautiful and best of ladies between the rivers Rhône and Sava gave happiness to me here before. All this has turned to sadness for me because of foolishness, not perfidy, such that I have lost her favour whom I had chosen as the best amongst all and who was the best I could behold in all the world. On top of that I fear her wrath.
A love which was striving way too high drove me out of my mind. When I beheld her eyes and mouth so well formed, and also her chin, there my heart within was wounded from such sweet foolishness that I became ignorant of wisdom . This I had to realise with bad side effects often enough ever since.

Thanks. The instrument is a long neck octavemandoline by a luthier company named "Oakwood" (Leeds/UK). But as far as I know they retiered last year. Its a great instrument but what it makes sound so rich are unision and thick gauge strings and a pretty hard stroke with the plekrum.
