EZCAD2: How to Pull Data from Excel for Laser Marking

Here are five tips to successfully pull data from an excel file (and also .txt files) into EzCad2 for marking with a Chinese fiber laser.

This is so great! Question: what if the file is dynamically generated, e.g. the EZCad template is pointed at a txt file, and the file is written to from the OS? Does it update in EZCad?

How would you group several lines for one marking? And then move on to the next group. Better yet, run several groups one after another with different locations on a grid? Easy on a CO2 laser, can't figure it out on Fiber. Thanks for your help!

This would be very useful feature if they would allow file paths in it for batch engraving of AI or DXF files.

Great Video, thanks for sharing. I am marking Stainless parts and need to do multiple passes before changing serial numbers. Can you do multiple marking passes when using this ? i.e. 5 loops under the Pass / part tab. Thanks again and keep up the good work

Yes, just set your number of passes in the hatch/pen settings.

what if you have a column that is just random information and some blanks? Sample, 3rd name has 3 column and 1,2 only have 2columns. Thanks for the video too. helped me any times.

I just tried it with a QR code and it seemed to work fine. Just start with the barcode function instead of the text function - everything else (enabling variable text) is the same.

Great video. Do you also know if it's possible to set a fixed width? We import names for customization via Excel. but some names are really short, some names are really long. We have a maximum character number, so that the text never exceeds our object. However, people who have short names, could be marked bigger. Currrently, they too get a smaller text, because the dimension of the text doesn't change based on width. Is this possible you think? Changing the height of the text in proportion to the width automatically? Thanks in advance.

If you click the 'advance' button in the variable text options, you'll see a checkbox which gives you the option to 'enable fixed text width'. Try that to see if this solves your issue.

I wish this would run on a mac. I have both M&W but for some reason when program's run on a mac they seem to be easier to us. I think its mostly because the items or tool are not so tiny you need to squint in order to see them. Well that's in my opinion anyway. 😁

Are those real names of people at 1:48 or just generated names? Might want to re-upload it with first names blurred so you dont need to remake the video. Otherwise great video and i have an better understanding now how one could mass-mark ID tags or similiar. cheers!

Thanks! No worries though; the first names are the most common baby names of 2019 and the surnames are also from a similar list. Everything is completely made up just for the demo.
