I used a piece of graph paper to verify the concavity and skew as I was adjusting the scale. No mention in my manual about order of operations on adjustments vs scale so I was messing with all the values at the same time. Not recommended. I was mainly trying to ensure proper scale. The graph paper was an easy way to have a visual reference for the red laser. Final tests were a light mark on aluminum measured with calipers.

I hadn't even considered graph paper - that's a good idea! Just as you mentioned, initially I also was changing multiple values at the same time and I agree - definitely felt like there was too much guess and check and there should have been a slightly better approach. Sounds like we went about this in a very similar way.

If you don't have graph paper, give this site a shot to print out a sheet on your own. incompetech.com/graphpaper/weightedgrid/ The printout will provide you a 250mm by 190mm grid. My field of view is 200x200, but I think this will still work just fine. Thanks, JefferyJ for helping so many of us get started on our adventures!

After i get correct goal vs real marking it does not mark as clearly as before. It was marking clear with wrong scaling than with correct scaling. What could be the problem? Thanks!

when i adjusted concavity on sides i had to back and check sizes too and vice versa take some time but now pretty close made mark on scrap sheepmetal and on 150 it might has 0.3 difference interestingly i could leave at 1.000 perspctivity also it was much square on the end made screenshot about settings and saved it

I was tripping on why the settings are for Y and X in the columns and not X and Y, but it seems that you just use the names X and Y the other way when measuring. Would assume that Y is along the axis of the galvo head tower assembly and X is across it (like left to right), like is usual convention. But no matter what you use, as long as you know what it means then it's ok, just makes it a bit hard to understand without definition.
@jefferyj
@jefferyj 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I was speaking in the normal sense where X runs side to side and Y runs ^ and down. The same as if you stood in front of a standard 3 axis milling machine.

I have a 50w fiber laser with a 150 lens. In my parameters settings I put 150mm, set my focal length and then made adjustment so that when I made a box 42mm x 42mm that is the size it would mark. Was I correct In my doing this? I hate to say this but it is a bit confusing to say the least. Im learning but by means of guessing.

thansk well explained, ! I would like to know how to correctly adjust the working area to enlarge the field to 20 cm. you know how . I did it I could y = -20 × = -20 and it was from 0 to 20 I don't know how to do it

You want to change the workspace in ezcad to match the field of your lens? Go to File>System Parameters, then tick the box to show workspace. This is where you'll enter the values. If your lens is 100x100, you'd enter -50,-50 for position and 100x100 for size. You will also have to adjust your field size in the F3 Parameters to the new size of your lens and you may want to adjust for skew too.

@@jefferyj hey Jeffery I hope you're still active in being helpful! I have a question about a bunch of things involving fiber laser. For one I'm trying to figure out the way to get the most power out of my machine. The power and frequency have a lot to do with it apparently. I'm being very long winded right now but right now I have my machine at 90hz frequency and about 70% power for a, apparent, 120 watt fiber laser. I have it at 200nm as well? I'm not sure what all the numbers are meaning but idk I just wanted to know what they all mean and what the best parameters would be to get the full power of the machine. It's being a huge headache. Goodness if you read all that thank you. If you don't reply I understand 😂

what laser source do you have? I know raycus is on the budget end, but im wondering if it'd be okay for someone who only needs to engrave 1000 serials and logos annually

I've been struggling with this most of the day today. I enter my desired marking size and actual marking size for galvo 2. Then set galvo 1. But the number I enter for actual marking size in galvo 1 also resets the setting I added to galvo 2. If I enter 123.5 for galvo 1 or 2, it duplicates that number for the other axis.

I’m actually just looking at calibrating my laser right now too- thanks for showing your approach, I think I’ll give it a try. My ezcad came with an executable called corfile2 which marks a test pattern and asks you to measure each of the segments (initially 9 points I think, but you can go up to like 27 points for finer calibration). It uses the data to calculate a .cor (correction I think) file which you can apply instead of manually entering all those values. I don’t think the result is any easier, and I wasn’t getting much satisfaction from the accuracy of measuring with a ruler.

I was thinking of trying a deeper etch in the box corners, so that the caliper tips have a registration notch.
@jefferyj
@jefferyj 5 жыл бұрын
I noticed corfile2 in my EzCad folder, and saw it mentioned in the manual but never realized that was its purpose. Thanks for pointing that out. I wonder if that's what the factory used to calibrate it initially. If you have good results using it, please let me know - I might give it a go. The deeper etch might be good too, if I recall correctly, I just ran the box on continuous marking mode and let it complete about 5 passes (with some noticeable error on the end position).

Does anyone know of more youtube channels like this that shows how to work with Fiber Laser, EZCAD, etc? That is in English like this channel? That is not the typical video with nothing but stupid music and no info!!!! This is the first channel I have found that is in English. Even web site lists would be useful. Or blog or forums. I am specifically interested in details on MOPA and what settings to use for different substrates. Also is there a way to determine the metal or plastic in s substrate so you can select the appropriate Power, Freq, Pulse, etc. Any info or links are greatly appreciated. Thx

I’m completely new to Fiber laser engraving and ezcad as I only have experience on lathes and 3D printing machines using CAD based software. Am I correct in assuming that once you have calibrated your laser for both X and Y as shown by the method on your tutorial....any other measurement that you add into ezcad will be true to? BTW I’ve subscribed to your channel and watched many of your ezcad tutorials and they are really good. Thanks man!
@jefferyj
@jefferyj 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's right. There are a couple methods to do this, but this basically adjusts for any skew as you move to the outer edges of the marking area. On the same screen in ezcad, you can adjust the scale to ensure you're marking true to size.
