I love how you read different books than most of the other book reviewers. I watch to get book suggestions, not to see what everyone thinks of the same book. Lord knows there are enough books to go around with crossovers!

I agree endings can either make or break a book or movie for me. It is really disappointing when a book you are enjoying falls flat at the end.

So I'm curious, does a book have to have some tragedy in it for you to like it? As a librarian, you read so widely I'm curious if there's a common denominator in these for you. (It's a professional flaw to analyze everyone's reading habits... 😅)

I like Star Daughter's depiction of Sheetal's complicated relationship with her family. Like, they're kinda horrible, but she still wants to have a relationship with them. The book didn't brush that under the rug and just have her 100% reconcile with them and everyone is happy. Even though that book isn't a fave, I appreciated that part.

I listened to Leech last month too. It was definitely not my normal type of book. It was okay, but not my favorite read of the month. That I think goes to The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. I did reach my reading goal for the year though (24 books) So going to try and double that for the second half of the year. Also, I went to the bottom of my TBR on good reads and started borrowing those books. Currently reading one that was put on there 10 years ago! (Written in Red by Anne Bishop) I can't wait to hear your thoughts on Eragon and enjoy the con!

I do that a lot: "This is a good book, but I do not think I will ever pick it up again." I am over 60 now and there are only so many books that I have time left to re-read!

I love hearing your thoughts on the books you read each month! You have a great conversational way of describing the books. If you're looking for some great fantasy books with good representation, check out Intisar Khannani's Dauntless Path series (Thorn, The Theft of Sunlight, and A Darkness at the Door! A more middle eastern/indian based world with wonderful characters that are full of heart. There's also some great disability rep in the 2nd book The Theft of Sunlight. I love the combination of fantasy, magic, some mystery, girl power, and an exploration on the meaning of justice and how different people work towards it in different ways. Lesser known books, but these are my favorite books!

In June I read "Fourth Wing" and attempted to read "Iron Flame" but I couldn't get into it. So far in July, I have read "Once Upon a Broken Heart" and "The Ballad of Never After". All courtesy of my local library. I'm waiting for the third book to be available. I would rank the series at a 3. There are a lot of "Rose tinted Glasses" moments that make me want to smack the MC, but here we are.

I like Leech waaaaay more than Gideon. I didn't think Leech was nearly as confusing. But definitely creepy. My July reads are Starling House, Of Jade and Dragons, and finishing Sir Patrick Stewart's autobiography (he reads it himself for the audio). Oh, and The Stardust Grail was good!

I absolutely adore your videos! I might have to read Leech; it sounds right up my alley. My June reads were The Tensorate Series by Neon Yang (4 novellas) & Service Model by Adrian Tchaikovsky.

I read my first V.E. Schwab in June: The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. It was beautifully written but I can tell that I will like it less than anything else I might read from her. I am excited to giver her other books a try😁

I liked the second book in the Eragon series the most I think, though I haven't finished them all (too many books to read in general) but Christopher Paolini signed my copy of Eragon at a con many years ago and nudged me to one day get back to finish the series.

I'd love to know what you think of Chris Wooding's duology, Malice and Havoc. It's middle grade, reads more like YA, and I found them really good.

My favorite reads tend to be save the world fantasy, but I read several M/F romance books in June, where most of the characters were bi (The Dark Olympus series by Katee Robert). I also read a regency novel with excellent disability and bi-racial rep, and found family, The Escape by Mary Balogh. The opening scene was confusing because it included so many characters, but the rest of it read smoothly. And watched with English subtitles the Japanese Otome game Piofiore Fated Memories, set in Italy in 1925, about a young woman who was raised in the Church and suddenly finds herself pursued by three Mafia families, two Italian and one Chinese. Most of the characters and acting are great, but the pacing is painfully slow. As a queer Mass Effect trilogy fan, I'm looking forward to checking out your recs: Seven Devils & Seven Mercies by L.R. Lam and Elizabeth May Star Daughter by Shveta Thakrar

My favourite book in June was The Mars House by Natasha Pulley. It's SciFi with discussions on refugees from climate change and autonomy of refugees in a new society, great they/them representation, and has an element of fake dating but the romance is not steamy. The actual plot is more a political scheming campaign, but there's also a thriller type twist in the book. You could argue it does too much. it's very well paced. The characters are well developed. I think you'd enjoy it!

Also I agree V E Schwab is a versatile writer. I didn't like her A Darker Shade of Magic Series but I really enjoyed The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue I enjoy hearing your reviews and have a couple of these on my tbr. I look forward to your Eragon videos as I read them many years ago and have mostly forgotten them, but you could tempt me to pick them up again!

I'm from northern germany and last week we had very hot and humid weather (because summer) and from now on it's gonna rain every single day for 2 weeks with very low temperature (because it's july?!). So I would rather sweat now than wearing long pants. That's just not what I want in july :D
