*Edit: At 6:50 it says Beta-1 receptors are primarily located in the heart and lungs. This is meant to say heart and kidneys (lungs are primarily Beta-2)

Awesome, teaching, after all this years I have come to understand ANS and where the receptor’s are located. Thank you ❤❤❤❤

Great video!!! Little correction 9:03 Beta 2 activation in the pancreas stimulates the release of GLUCAGON instead of insulin, to increase the level of glucose readily available in the blood. Insulin remove unneeded glucose in the blood.

Doesn’t insulin help us use the glucose in the blood?

i just watched like 4 videos regarding this subject and none of them explained them through linking the fight and flight response like you did. thankyou very much

How does B2 receptor causes smooth muscle relaxation on activation if it's GS type of receptor which increases cAMP
@ezmed2 жыл бұрын
This was answered in a previous comment already but here is the short answer. It is because the role of cAMP differs in cardiac muscle and smooth muscle. In cardiac muscle, cAMP increases calcium which leads to contraction. In smooth muscle, the role of cAMP is NOT to increase calcium. Rather, the role of cAMP is to convert myosin light chain kinase (MLCK) into a further inactive form which results in relaxation (The active form of MLCK is required for contraction). Hope that helps! 😊

Are the beta 1 receptors located primarily on heart and kidneys or heart and lungs? At 4:25 it says heart and kidneys, at 6:54 it says heart and lungs.
@ezmed4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for pointing this out! Beta1 receptors are located primarily in the heart and kidneys. Beta2 receptors are located in the lungs. The statement made at 6:54 was a slip up. Thanks!

You talked about pancreas effect,secreting insulin I know insulin is going to help conserve glucose, shouldn't it be Glucagon that'll release the glucose into the blood?
@ezmed2 жыл бұрын
Glucagon is also increased during a sympathetic response. Hope that helps! 👍

Thanks a lot. What is cAMP roles precisely?
@ezmed3 жыл бұрын
Great question! Increased levels of cAMP in the heart (from activation of beta-1 receptors) leads to increased calcium entry into the cardiac myocytes. This will increase cardiac contractility and heart rate. It does this through activation of cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PK-A) that phosphorylates L-type calcium channels. Increased levels of cAMP in smooth muscles such as blood vessels (from activation of beta-2 receptors) leads to smooth muscle relaxation by inhibiting myosin light chain kinase. Hope that helps! Feel free to reply with any more questions!

Well But I have one question Stimulation of beta 1 R leading to constriction ( cardiac myocyte) Stimulation of beta 2 R leading to relaxation of smooth muscle ( bronchioles) but when cAMP increase it phosphorylates ion channel and CA++ influx occur how it going to relaxation?? ☺️
