Great conversation, all! I love listening to Ezra’s podcast (always rich and thoughtful discussion that challenges me in the best way), and I’ve enjoyed lots of Katie’s work! In my humble opinion, as a mixed race (Jamaican/Indian) woman in the United States, Harris has to navigate more than the three of you will ever truly understand (as a female minority around the same age, I can SO relate). She CANNOT show up and manage this space like a white man, or a white woman, although a woman typically in the public eye knows some of the challenges associated with moving up and forward in any profession (Katie, you can certainly speak to this in some way); it is NOT easy in any way, shape or form. There is no way in hell that she would ever get away with behaving like Trump, no way. SO much more is expected and demanded of her, especially being the first in at least three categories. Not being a great debater or interviewer doesn’t mean you wouldn’t be a hard-working and effective leader, which she is in her own right and has been in collaboration with Biden (their administration simply hasn’t done the best job publicizing their efforts and wins, and this is hurting her now). Actually, Harris is a great interviewee; I’ve watched interviews with her across social media with all types of audiences - past and present, with new to seasoned interviewers! She’s certainly has her challenges, she tends to run on a bit versus delivering clear and concise answers to questions. I totally understand why she wouldn’t as easily engage in interviews with main stream media; I would feel the same way, as so many journalists and pundits conduct gotcha interviews. And the pressure that builds around these main stream interviews is ridiculous!!! As far as folks feeling like they don’t know enough about her, I call BS. If you don’t know who she is, it’s because you don’t want to know OR you may have some internal resistance (conscious and/or unconscious) around electing a female or a minority, or a female/minority for the highest office in the U.S. This woman is more qualified (sounds familiar, right, as this was the case with Hilary Clinton) than most who run for this position. Apparently, though, qualifications, character, values, public service, and some robust policies aren’t enough for many to confidently stand with her…go figure. Again, I really appreciate this enlightening conversation!!! 🙏🏽

The puzzle here, with this 'masculine' discussion, doesn't yet embrace/hint at the essential, underlying issue of murky, poorly developed, masculine identity. Years ago, in 'cowboy times,' an apparent, less confusing, goal for guys was the Clint Eastwood cowboy, the cattle driver, lawman who could kick butt and take names with a power pose. Masculinity is far more than an appearance, quasi physical attribute - but instead that current, puzzling, identity-quandary should evolve, from a more advanced perspective, into a values-driven identity - period! - with a clear vision of what-does-work for us all - with long term objectives that reach beyond the moment into a future of improved self-management and ownership values.

It really bothers me that Biden can't see how bad he is and looks now! :(

Let's be honest here. Challenging the status quo always generates opposition and backlash in US society. Let's not forget how long it took women to secure just the right to vote. At least on paper, African American men had far more rights and economic opportunities in our society than women. It was not until the 1980s that women entered the labor force in competition with men. It is this competition that is at the heart of the current backlash against women's empowerment in our society.

🙄 The men are not ok. And yet, they haven’t had a single right taken away from them. Im having trouble feeling sorry for them. Honestly, pull it together & grow up. Stop following a man baby & stand up for the women in your lives that are fighting hard to keep rights that are literally life or death.

I’m confused….Kamala doesn’t answer questions directly. WTF? I think she does as much as any politician & infinitely more than Vance or Trump. I’m just tired of this extremely high standard for her where there is none for the other side.

“People faced hard times up through the 1950s” and still had children. Yeah & women also had no rights, ability to work, or birth control. If they had, how many would’ve said no to bringing a child into the world under terrible circumstances?

Not sure about what Ezra is saying - just intellectual extravaganza. First you say that being detailed is a liability and then you are asking for details. Not sure if you really know Kamala historically how she does things. Like the person commented below, a mixed race woman has to prove herself 3 more times. Talk is cheap

I disagree with Ezra, there is a "policy" issue. We have huge expectation from Harris but no one expects it from Trump... but why? He has no policies and no one is pushing him for more info.

I grew up in a household of men. I know them pretty well. I would argue that men need their own version of "woman's liberation." In this case, it's men's liberation. Men need to separate themselves from society's unrealistic expectations of who they are and what they're supposed to be. Like women, men feel uncertain and insecure, particularly when they're young and when it comes to women. Men who spend all of their time in gym building their abs and biceps, are no different from women who are always on a diet. They want to feel and be attractive. They're afraid they won't be successful. And they're afraid they won't be able to find a loving and accepting partner. Couple that with a society that's shaming them for behaving the way they were taught to behave inside their home growing up. eventually there's going to be a real disconnect in society. I'm waiting for a man who's going to stand up and become the Betty Friedan of the Men's Liberation Movement. I know he's out there but he hasn't shown himself yet.

She did a lot of interviews when she was an AG and DA. However she excels when the interviewer is equally intellectually keen. I am sure she and her advisor have considered the issue with interviews and her charismatic although instinctive is also orchestrated. She can overwhelm an interviewer and probably will come out as bein too elite and maybe she is avoiding that.

Let’s be real. The Trump image of the rich, successful globe trotting ladies man is something most young men covet. The sad thing to me, as a woman, is that the Trump version of masculinity is immature & shallow. It’s diminishing of the real depth of a mature, grounded, humble or reserved when need be, strong when need be kind of masculinity.
