OMG, this was fabulous and I hope you do this again real soon Katie with Dr. Mary Claire. I am 57 years old and this was such an educational eye-opener!!! My mind is truly blown! we need so much more education on menopause and what it does to a woman’s body. I’m shocked to even hear that women weren’t even included in clinical trials. What the heck!

Mary Claire is my hero!! The community she has built is so important to all women!! Thank you Katie for adding her to your community. I felt like ending my life during menopause. I first thought it was the isolation from Covid but I just got worse as Covid restrictions subsided. I gained 30 lbs in a few months, could barely walk because my joints hurt so bad. I had no desire to do anything! I had recurrent UTIs, hot flashes memory loss and episodes of anger for no reason. I didn’t recognize myself. Mary Claire helped me realize I wasn’t crazy or alone. I found an amazing physician and nurse practitioner who changed my life. I am on HRT and changed my diet to the Galveston diet. I lost 34 lbs so far ( my husband lost 20) and most of my symptoms have resolved. I feel much younger and no longer have those episodes of depression/anger. I have also educated my husband ( who is an oncologist ) to discuss symptoms with his patients and educate himself. He has started sending patients to my physician. We as women need to advocate for each other to get every woman access to menopause care. I am shocked how many women are suffering in silence when I talk about my experience because they think they have no options. Thanks to both of you for bringing menopause to the forefront 😘❤️

Thank you for educating your oncologist husband. Doctors are not educated about menopause in med school so most oncologists will induce instantaneous menopause when they give chemotherapy. They have NO clue how severe the symptoms can be , it is much worse than a natural slower menopause.

Just curious though. She reduced my estradiol patch from 1.0 to 0.7 due to break through bleeding. She also upped my progesterone for a few weeks. The bleeding stopped but I sometimes still don’t feel super great. I am wondering how do you decide what percentage dose is right. I tried asking my doctor about it but I don’t think I really communicated well because I am still confused. I am wondering if I would feel much more like myself again on the higher dose. The doctor talked SO fast, I didn't catch most of what she said, and Katie interrupted her numerous times to where they were talking over each other so you couldn't hear what either one of them were saying. Katie, I think you should redo this video and correct those two items. Just my thoughts. I have to speak against hormone therapy, just pay attention if/when you start it. My mental health (which I never had an issue with) became a problem. I would break down crying then felt rage at things I would never have in the past. It was AWFUL!! worse than menopause and all of its symptoms. I don't think its right for every women and I feel like now Doctors are going the other way trying to convince women that you have to in order to live a long healty life.
@lindajones48494 ай бұрын
Hi- doctors do tend assume that allwomen are the same so you need to watch them. There are other tissues that can produce some estrogen after the ovaries shut down ( like the adrenal glands). Ok course i am speculating but you may be one of the minority of women who do well after menopause without hormones, your symptoms suggest that whatever hormones they gave you were for you an overdose.

I have a real problem with the entire narrative around HRT being breast cancer, which affects 1 in 7 and has really good treatment options, whereas osteoporosis affects 1 in 2, with high morbidity and mortality. I think this has to do with the objectification of women and how the treatment for breast cancer potentially impacts the male gaze, whereas the pain of osteoporosis is borne silently. Also why can't we get bazedoxifene alone? This is a despicable and cynical tactic to get rid of all the equine estrogen nobody now wants, and I can't wait for it to go off patent.

It's okay to ask the questions, Katie, even if you already know the answers. You don’t need to pretend to be uninformed. "Living well' doesn't have to be all about perfect health, beauty, or wealth. Living well to many women is living with gratitude for what one has done, what one has now, and the blessings one will continue to have. Menopause is not a "mystery." It's another stage of life. Smart women avoid HRT.
@lizherbst73934 ай бұрын
I’m a smart woman and I’m doing better on HRT - better sleep, better energy, less joint pain, protecting my bones and less brain fog. For this and many things in my life, I am very grateful. I’d never tell anyone to take HRT, but for some people, it’s life-changing. It’s an individual decision. Do research and talk to your doctor.
@lindajones48494 ай бұрын
Menopause is a grossly under researched area as are most women's health issues. If you had minimal or no symptoms in menopause consider yourself lucky . The majority of women ha e symptoms and most get no help from their doctors. Look at the research of Dr. Lisa Mosconi - she has shown with PET scans of the brain that the average women has a 40 percent cent drop in ATP production during perimenopause. Some women are worse, some much better.
