If Hegseth drank to much, it's a vice, not a dishonorable thing. What IS a dishonorable thing is for him to be lectured by the likes of Dem Senator Richard Blumenthal. who lied about his service in Vietnam. You know, stolen valor? Honor doesn't seem to mean much to the left, which is why you think it's okay for you to call Republicans "shameless" with no more thought than commenting on the weather.

You DO know that Trump doesn't have one iota more power than Biden has, or that he had in his first term, don't you? And, he has not expressed any desire for "Hitler-like generals". He HAS expressed a desire to have generals who follow orders from their Commander-in-Chief (like Hitler's did), which was actually the reference that you disingenuously made. Apparently, a number of incumbents seem to think this is okay...that clown Milley bragged about thwarting the wishes of Trump, which, if I recall correctly, is considered treasonable behavior. Perhaps you can explain just how, specifically, this "power consolidation" would work, that would be different than how it is designed to work today? My guess is, you haven't got a clue, which is what one usually finds out when you hysterical know-nothings spout this stuff that you haven't actually thought about in any depth at all.

I think in a security culture, 3 marriages would be considered compromising. Issues with money- say, to pay a settlement to someone who has accused you of assault , would be considered compromising, even if it weren't considered criminal. Just on the security issue alone, Hegseth would be disqualified. However, we have a President who is a felon, and that would be considered a security issue in other dimension than the one we live in now.

The interview bprovides a detailed analysis of Pete Hegseth's confirmation hearing for the position of Secretary of Defense. Here are several key insights based on the conversation: Confirmation Hearing Dynamics: The hearing was described as contentious, deeply divided along party lines. Democrats were highly critical of Hegseth, whereas Republicans seemed supportive, highlighting the partisan nature of the proceedings. Hegseth's Qualifications: Hegseth's military service, including deployments to Guantanamo Bay, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and his receipt of two Bronze Star medals, were acknowledged. However, his lack of high-level leadership experience, especially in managing large organizations like the Department of Defense, was heavily criticized. Critics argue his experience does not match the complexity and scale of the Defense Secretary role, comparing it to running a small veterans' organization versus managing a global military operation. Personal Conduct Concerns: Hegseth faced scrutiny over personal behavior, including allegations of excessive drinking, adultery, and a settled sexual assault claim. These issues raised questions about his suitability for a role demanding high moral standards, particularly given the military's strict adherence to the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) for officers. Views on Women in Combat: His past statements against women serving in combat roles were a focal point, contrasting with his recent assurances during the hearing that he would support women in these positions. This discrepancy was highlighted as potentially politically motivated, questioning his sincerity and consistency on gender issues in the military. Leadership of Veterans' Organizations: Criticism was voiced regarding his leadership of Vets for Freedom and Concerned Veterans for America, with claims that he mismanaged these organizations financially, drawing parallels to his potential management of the Pentagon's vast resources. Pressure Campaign: There were discussions about a pressure campaign by Trump's transition team to ensure Hegseth's confirmation, including allegations of intimidation against potential witnesses and critics, indicating an aggressive push to get him confirmed despite controversies. Political Implications: The interview suggests that Hegseth's nomination reflects a broader trend of Trump seeking loyalists rather than seasoned military or policy experts, which could impact military decision-making and policy direction. This raises concerns about the independence of military advice and the potential for a "purge" of officers not aligned with Trump's agenda. Confirmation Outlook: Despite the criticisms, there's an indication that Hegseth might have the votes for confirmation, especially with the backing of key Republican senators. However, the final outcome was uncertain at the time of the interview, with hopes pinned on a few Republicans possibly opposing the nomination. In summary, the interview paints a picture of a contentious confirmation process where Hegseth's military background, personal behavior, and past statements are leveraged both in defense and critique of his nomination. The discussion underscores the political nature of such appointments and the broader implications for military leadership and policy under a new administration.
