That is good tip. I learned a trick from a performance engine builder to prevent oil leaks between the block and intake manifold, I use a center punch on both the intake surface and block surface every 1/4-3/8 inch which effectively 'knurls' the surface and give the silicone a chance to anchor itself. I hate oil leaks

Iv never tried that I normally use ultra gray and let it tack up a few minutes before plopping the intake down normally works well for me

I used to do this at a Machine Shop.... Same principle, less steps. You showed a great way to do it, if you're at home, with basic Tools! Awesome job!!

Nice tip, Ezra! Looks like you've really got a good handle on putting engines together without having a whole machine shop at your disposal.

I got taught this method to putting on press fit pistons when I was younger now it is a dying trade art and that’s the truth . I still do the these pistons the old way . The old trade ways are the best , now everyone just sends their problems to any machine shop . Dying trade art 👍 🧰🔧

I use the heat/ freezer method quite a bit when installing bearings that are an interference fit. Old oven works wonders to throw the bearings in, and if whatever your pressing into is small enough it goes in the freezer. Makes everything so much easier. Thanks for sharing.

we used to use cardice a chemical freeze agent,we'ed have a bucket full and put liners in it overnight ready to fit into the groove in the block, and gudgeon pins into pistons also kingpins after reaming out the brass bushes, also great for fitting ring gear on flywheels, the new pistons look very short.

I wish I had a bigger shop! Although Im pretty sure your shop is colder than a witches tddy. Still planning on moving...and Nordakota is still in the lead...seems like the best place for buying up land, and having a big shop. Of course, the'res still that saying. Why not Minot? Freezns the reason.

Just before you install the pistons get as much oil on that pin as you can, and again just before you bolt the pan on . Ask me how I know . Been awhile, 1968 .
