F-105D and an F-105F Thunderchief “THUD” Vietnam Era Film Footage digitized

The following video of F-105Ds and an F-105F serving during the Vietnam conflict taken in 1970 was converted digitally from its original silent film reels.
I have transformed this original film by adding my own sound and text notes in the video and consider this version my own original work and have uploaded it for the education and entertainment value that may be gained by my viewers.

Holy cow Tom! What amazing footage. My jaw dropped when I noticed this pop up in notifications. The footage is stunning in that it retains a high quality feel without the sterile overly "clean" look some enhanced videos have. The notes and brilliant use of added sound effects pushes it to the next level. The sounds are so natural, that for a minute I thought I misread the description stating it was silent footage. Easy to forget just how large the F-105 was until you see the ground crew standing next to the aircraft. Really looking forward to Project #34!

Wow, another fantastic memory flashback! Memories of visiting my uncle when my cousin got to come home before his next "SEA" tour. He was based at Korat RTAFB from early '67 thru '70. He told me lots of stories about the Arming Pit's, and how busy it got somtimes. And seeing those "THUD's in the arming pit just really kicked it off. One of my fondist memories I have was when he let me wear his "SIERRA HOTEL" hat after his second deploment was over. Pretty neat for an 8 year old! Thanks for the memories and keep it up.

Great job. I was with the 23rd Wing in 1972, we sent over 12 F-105 Wild Weasels and four of them got shot down but we pulled 1,900 missions and were awarded the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Combat "V".

This reminds me of that decade and the Vietnam war.....1970 was the year I turned 16. My brother had returned from his tour of duty with the Australian armoured regiment stationed in Nui Dat in February that year so watching those F-105s brought back memories. Great footage telling the story of different time and how things don't always change.

I've never met a Thud pilot I did not like. My track coach 1985 to 87 was the first F-105 pilot I knew. Do you have a model build of one? Say, now that Morris ANG base is partaking in history are you going to do a Ukrainian viper build when they roll them out?

Hi AndrewTubbiolo, though the Thunderchief has a hard reputation for its losses, the Thud drivers always speak highly of the aircraft. A Thud model you ask? Stay tuned for 19:00 Zulu today. It was always just the 162nd FG then the FW during my career. I can't get used to "Morris" ANG base! 🤣
