NICE! I was in VF 111 when the only time miss molly existed for only a few short weeks in dedication to the nurse that took care of Vinsons wife. The carrier was later named after him - Carl Vinson. We actually flew the bird to an airport near her and showed it to her. She (now old at the time) stated “thank you for making me look so pretty!” 😎

I have built many military models in my life. Your KZbin channel and this video does a great service to people who might be interested in this hobby by showing many of the tools used to put a model kit together and the effort necessary to build a model. I am glad that you took the time to show how much precision work goes into making a model. Model building is a very satisfying hobby. If you want to give a completed model you make to somebody it represents a unique, very personalized gift that you put personal time, thought, and resources into making. If you want to keep the model you build, it is always available as a 3D replica of something you have an interest in that you can hold in your hands, look at and think about.

Thanks for watching! It took me a while to complete but I am 90% satisfied with the result which is a very good rate on my scale :). I'm setting up a new video shooting studio with new lights, background etc. (You can see the difference after the 14th minute of the video). In my current studio, it was very difficult to both build models and shoot videos. I hope that with the advantages of the new studio, I will produce faster and more videos and content next season and present them to you. Have a great day everyone! PS: The adhesive I mentioned in the video is MEK (Butanone)

A word that defines your model well... balance. You can put effects that normally "dirt" the model's appearance in a way that doesn't. The overall look of the model is impressive. Congratulations on the artwork.

Tomcats with red trim have always looked good! My favorite F-14 squadron emblem after Jolly Rogers (VF-84) is VF-1 Wolf Pack. The red wolf head with the stripes trailing it is one of the iconic F-14 badges. The Wolf Head and striping actually still looks good in grey. They went low-viz paint scheme in the 1980s and it was one of the few squadron badges that still worked in the low-viz era.

Fantastic second part and overall result. In my younger years I worked on USN aircraft for a few years, and regardless of type they had one thing in common - absolutely filthy, especially around maintenance panels to engine, hydraulic and even electronics bays. Gear bays as well. As techs “clean as they work”, particular panels regularly appear lighter or different than surrounding panels given their more regular contact than sealed metalwork; my flight line toolset always included cleaning spray, “clean” rags and worn scotchbrite-like pads - this maintenance result contributed significantly to the mottled appearance of aircraft that your excellent paint skills recreates. I hope this might be of some value to your knowledge base! 👋

@crtzmo3 жыл бұрын
@@TheModelGuy “dirty” while on detachment is very different than“dirty” in the squadron hangar; fluids and oils are excellent deterrents to salt and other corrosives… I think the most common issue I see in “realistic models” are the uniformity of the filth, from pitot to tail hook, wingtip to wingtip - that’s not consistent to the aircraft I had the pleasure of working on.
@paulmoore54013 жыл бұрын
@@TheModelGuy As a US Navy pilot, this is absolutely correct. And on the other hand, doing a cross country in my trusty Navy A-6 Intruder, I would come across parked Air National Guard F-16's that looked like museum pieces. So the bottom line is do your homework and know your subject. That dirty model might be spot on .... and it could be all wrong.

Great build!!! Thanks for sharing. Just a couple of heads up: at 6:35 you sanded the "molding seams" on canopy but those are the lightning strip present on Tomcat's canopy and second may be you must consider to add mirrors to the canopy. Best regards
@Scaleaton3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. Nope, the lightning strips are molded from the inside of the canopy not outside. Those are really seam lines. It's most common mistake with this kit. I guess because of some reviews.

It looks like you used the, “Fightertown USA F-14A Tomcats Part 1 CAG 2/10/15” decals for this very impressive build! I’ve been so impressed I would like to give this project a go. I was an A-6E Intruder pilot during Desert Storm in VA-155 in CAG 2 on the Ranger. I’m interested in doing either a VF-1 or VF-2 version which were the fighter squadrons in CAG 2 during Desert Storm. VF-1’s Ready Room was right next to ours and I knew most of the aircrew. I can NOT find this decal sheet online anywhere. Are you interested in selling the VF-1 or VF-2 decals from that sheet? Thanks. Your build of this aircraft absolutely watered my eyes! Paul Moore

Hi Paul, unfortunately I've used HAD decals set and it's for only one aircraft, no decals left. I'm sorry I couldn't help you.
Beautiful build but, I have a quick question for you; during your research for recreating the specific markings did you find if initially the Miss Molly logotype was only on the one side of the aircraft? Or was it from the beginning on both sides?

Sweet looking Tomcat! Top quality video, very enjoyable. Just one minor detail I have noticed about the armament. Since the AIM-9s and AIM-54s have yellow band markings (live warheads), it is a bit odd to have the AIM-7s with blue bands (training missiles, no warheads). Mixed armament of live and training rounds never occurs as far as I know. Thank you.

Hi! I'm doing the same model, with the same decals. Adding weight in the nose is needed? Another question is: when you make the effect mixing white with the H325, i can see that you make the effect around the stencils. Shouldn't be better to make the effect first, and then, apply the stikers/stencils? Awesome skills, man, fantastic!!!
@Scaleaton2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for your comment. No need any weight Tamiya already gives weights with their kits when necessary. About the postshade weathering; it's also cover some silverings and add some effect over on the stencils too.
