I know, right. His engines have to be missing some blades after that raucous. I have had that sound as well. Not sure if the hydraulic damage i had caused a problem, with the inlet ramps, of if I had engine damage, but those sounds scared me just about every time. Thought I was exploding.

Really excellent tutorial ... almost no one teaches the emergency procedures, the only one that I remember doing so was Bunyap for the A-10C ... so, kudos for a most instructional video, you've got a new subscriptor :)

Already did :D .. just checked a similar video you did for the MiG-19 ... very nice and very different from those typical cold start tutorials that other YT channels do ... also liked your performance videos, testing the ceiling or max speed of the Tomcat ... very original, thanks a lot for those :)

Spooldown restart is only applicable if the engine is still spooling down. If it's cold, as it was in this video, there's no point, just go straight to the crossbleed start.
@Suyamu
@Suyamu 5 жыл бұрын
I agree. I've done successful spooldown starts several times on the ground so far when playing around in vr and accidentally shutting down the engine by bumping into it with the hand tracking controllers. It goes something like this - "whoops, better try to put it back in idle - aaaand yep, it's coming up again - good thing it still had enough RPM". ;)

I feel sure that many compressor stall explosions would completely destroy the engine in real life

the last engine restart method looked something like straight out of a movie! i wonder if heatblur programmed in cheeky code that makes engines restart at low alt (radar) (( and obviously high speed )) for extra dramatic effect
@BobSmith-uu5kj
@BobSmith-uu5kj 3 жыл бұрын
The air is thicker at lower altitudes hence more spooling and chances of restart… but you still need to get there at high speed :-) reminds me the restart in the Flight of the Intruder.

On any jet engine you can over the gates to idle/cut off which cuts the fuel off to the engine. That'll shut it down.

Question, how come you still can control the surfaces during that windmill? like, I know there's an electrical backup pump, or so I understood from the manual, but in case of losing both engines, as the Tomcat does not have an APU or battery, how does that work? Or is the pressure provided by accumulators enough to start the emergency generator?

Tomcat doesn't have fly by wire, the stick is connected to the airframe.

Thanks for this great video! I had a left engine fire and I tried to follow NATOPS manual but I did not have any luck in putting the fire out. Anyone tried it? I put throttle to idle, air source to off, fire detection test (with both lights illuminating), fuel shut-off handle pull, throttle off, climbed and decelerated, fire extinguisher, but with no luck. Next step would have been to eject, however, I was able to land the bird on the carrier. I wonder if it was just a really persistent fire or it's not simulated as much

Looking at the thumbnail, I have to ask, is the Tomcat a biplane?
@averageaviationgeek9318
@averageaviationgeek9318 5 жыл бұрын
No, the 'lower wing' you see is the horizontal stabilizers (elevons) and the 'upper wing' is the primary wing. However, assuming you were being sarcastic, not a good one but atleast you tried. :)
@Nails077
@Nails077 5 жыл бұрын
@@averageaviationgeek9318 I am familiar enough with the Tomcat to know what I am looking at 😉. But the thumbnail does make it look like they are almost equal size and I was just being silly. I also thought of the Viggen which is sometimes called the world's only supersonic biplane because of its large canards and thought it might be feeling lonely and wanting some company in that category.
