This does not accurately represent the effectiveness of these vehicles. While some of the objective strengths/weakness are showcased, a 1v1 will not accurately depict how these planes can be best utilized in real air realistic matches. These fights are for viewership/entertainment. This is not always how either of us would be using these vehicles in an actual games, mainly so in the fact that loitering around at high altitude isn't the most competitive way to play. It is fun though and makes for good looking video, so that's why we went this route. We Do still try to win against each other, just not using our preferred methods of fighting.

Gaijin needs to change how radars interact with extremely low altitude targets before that would be worthwhile. IRL flying on the deck is useful for avoiding detection, but if you’re coming straight at a guy he’s still likely going to kill you if you don’t defend. In WT it’s this magic safe zone once you’re below 200ft

In my honest opinion I think the 29 is better simply because the average player will be able to utilize the ER a lot better than the 6 sparrows and may be a few phoenixes (phoenixes in the right use are actually pretty good for keeping ERs off your ass or a free kill). I think with skilled players the F-14 is better since honestly it’s hard to die to any missile if you know what you’re doing, in fact it isn’t even ER’s that kill me these days. 8 amazing opportunities to get kills plus a radar that can switch to CW mid lock to avoid notching is really nice and if you’re patient it’s free 6 kills. Sure I agree with the not being able to utilizes missiles argument in an air rb match. But 9Ls are still powerful if not the most powerful IR missile excluding the python and r-24/27T, he’ll you could carry 4 of em and 4 sparrows. Then you get 4 guaranteed kills with more time to utilize em and if you use the 9Ls right it has a much better kill rate than an R-60M, but at the same time against skilled players no matter what missile you’re carrying they will never hit if they play right in which case the 29 is better because of flight performance he’ll you could say the F-16 is the best because it’s currently imo the best dog fighter. But that’s a stretch, anyway I really think you could go either way at this point just pick your preferred style 29 or 14B

In my opinion, the two aircraft are evenly matched in battle influence for a couple reasons. Some already mentioned in the video. I'll start by comparing armament. The R-27ER is 100% the better missile when it comes to Fox-1 gameplay. Insane performance. It however should not be very difficult for an experienced player keeping their cool to notch once you've had some practice with it. If you're surprised from closer up, you can always just pull and spam chaff once you get close to the notch and once you've pulled through it. This is contrasted with the numerical advantage of weaponry from the F-14B. Having 6 radar missiles that aren't as good may not favor the 1v1 much, as mentioned in the vid. However, I disagree with the sentiment that you will not have enough time to properly use all of them. It can be beneficial to the match sometimes not to just treat missiles as potential kills, but as utility. Sometimes, I will launch a missile at someone because I don't want them to be able to push me or a teammate, even if the PK is rather low. Bonus points if it actually kills my intended target. With the Mig-29, I have to carefully think about when I use my R-27ER's since I only have two of them. But with F-14B, I can be much more liberal with my shots, especially since my Aim-9L's are more capable than the R-60's of the Mig-29 (Mainly in terms of range allowing for more engagement opportunities). I have experienced plenty of annoyance from not being able to take possibly match-making missile shots or salvos because a player with allot of radar missiles just isn't giving me any breathing room. That and the majority of your missiles having a long kinetic range gives aircraft like F-14B allot of late-game initiative. Performance wise, the aircraft both have high acceleration and climb rates, even if the Mig-29 is just a bit more cracked from it's TWR. I will say however, that while F-14B can perform well in a slow merge against Mig-29, the aircraft has insane energy retention at most speeds and, if given the opportunity, can wear down other fighters like the mig-29 if they aren't careful with their maneuvers. This does however mean ceding the initiative in a merge, so do this with that in mind. Sometimes, you may need to be more aggressive to prevent this.

If the phoenix had similar max G pull to a sparrow or even slightly worse than a sparrow (25G aim7F) then it would be much more threatening.

In wt planes pull much more Gs than irl, where 8-9g is a limit for a pilot, and are really hard physically to pull. Thus 17Gs that Phoenix has results in better pk, and 20+ Is a guaranteed hit unless defeated by energy/notch

In wt it means that a seaker fov decreases after a launch. So there is less chance that a flare happens to be inside it and confuse a missile. Irl that means that when a seeker detects a flare frequency (which differs from a plane's one), it turns the seeker of for a moment and just flies by ins

On these higher maps where the deck is like 2k meters, the mig29 is definitely at a disadvantage in the dogfight just due to it losing significantly more speed than something like an F-14 at high alt, you need to get the kill in the first turn otherwise you're pretty much boned. Yes, you did beat him in the dogfight on Pyrenees but as you said you entered with a significant advantage but if you guys had entered on even somewhat fair terms I'm fairly certain you wouldn't have been able to do much. I just wish more people would realize the F-14's dogfighting capability and quit writing it off instantly just because the Mig-29 is in game.

It’s just objective fact that the mig29 does most everything better than the F14. Even rates better contrary to popular opinion. use WTRTI to get the numbers. In full real controls/mouse joystick the F14 has more advantages, but as always my videos are mouse aim in air rb. The F14s only big real strong suit is vertical loops, but the 29 will probably kill it before it gets too far ahead.

No idea how they modelled it in WT, but in DCS we generally consider firing Phoenixes north of 30000ft, or what would be what, 9000m? And that's a bare minimum. Also, you are much better off firing them at mach 0.9 30000ft, then mach 1.2 20000ft. MUCH better.

huh, isn't the r27 a fox 1?so why doesn't the f14 shoots one phoenix and then crank a bit and then go cold? because the mig29 have to maintain the lock all the way till impact, meaning it can't defend properly and attack at the same time. Migs radar and the 27er has good all aspect PD and low notch filters. This means at alt, just going cold wont work super well unless youre also defending with manuvers and chaff to scramble the lock

No, The C Tracks better then the A and in real life had slower speed then the A. It looks worse, but it trades 0.2 mach in speed for better tracking. F-14B accelerates better then the A and can get to higher altitudes far faster. The F-14A is slightly better at turning, however the F-14B gets better once energy starts to drain. So over all the F-14B is a solid upgrade.

It’s not at all the same as the A. the engines produce way more power, and are only worse at very high speed. the C is actually a bit better than the A, it’s just 20kg heavier but has a better inertial navigation system. Other than that theyre the same missile.

lol goes vertical w busted engine against a mig29, doesn't swap track modes while guiding aim7s, doesn't even try to reacquire target with iog idk maybe just need more wvr experience with the f14. solid bvr fundamentals, although phoenix's would bang harder if you were on the deck looking up ~25 miles, the aim54 burns for ~2min. In a 1v1 in warthunder best used as a discount aim120, and swap from pd track to track when they try to notch your radar, then spam reacquire through chaff to keep the missile's iog on the right track, let the prox fuse do the rest

R-27ER has a max range of 40 miles IRL, Pheonix has a max range of 60 miles (40 effective at fighters) In DCS, I launch a Pheonix at 50 miles and it will probobly hit my target, he would not be able to launch for another 10 miles after you launch that Pheonix.

This vid is a great reminder that in war thunder *all* mid-long range missiles in the game are completely useless if the target goes cold/defends by hitting the deck. Funnily enough though, most WT players are kill-hungry and hardly ever go defensive, leading to random retards blowup up to phoenixes every round. Laughable.

Its a shame the Phoenix missiles are so crap on WT. In reality, they accelerate extremely fast, and could pull over 25g. In WT they accelerate like a snail, and only 17G. The phoneix is known for being an insanely fast missile.

i dont know about fast accelerating but they can get to high speeds which is what makes them hard to dodge, but if the aim54 was realistic in wt it would be op af, especially in sim cause you wouldn't get a ping on the screen while its burning

17g is correct single plane maneuverability. Phoenixes are 17g single plane and 25g dual plane, but war war thunder does not model dual plane maneuverability for the sake of simplicity and consistency. It's the same reason the aspide was nerfed from 35g to 25g, the source gaijin originally used was for two plane maneuverability.

also, idk if anyone will read this, but when you are pulling the crank, try not to turn too much as you might accidentally lose lock (maybe, idk how war thunder works) and you will bleed energy. Also, at 4:35, when someone launches a missile at you, don't run away as you are already inside that missile's min abort range, meaning the missile will catch up if you run, instead, pull into a notch and dump countermeasures to keep the most energy and have the best chance of dodging their missile.

And when you are notching in bvr, don't recommit immediately as the bandit's missile/ the bandit itself might be able to reaquire you and lock on again, I think that's why you got hit by that Fox 1/3 (I forgot which that missile was)

Phoenix can hit a target from 60nm only if it is launched above 35k feet and a target also fly higher 35k. Find a wt fight with these altitude first
