Two awesome F-35B Lightnings at RAF Marham perform a take off called a 'Short Take Off'.
RAF Marham is the home of the F-35 Lightning a 5th Generation, multi-role, stealth fighter. Marham operates the B model F-35, which is a STOVL (Short Take Off Vertical Landing) aircraft. The RAF omit the 'II' because this is RAFs third Lightning!
The Lightning’s short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) capability allows it to operate from the new ‘Queen Elizabeth’-class aircraft carriers and the vessels of allied nations, as well as short airstrips. The F-35B lands vertically like a helicopter and can take off in very short distances, allowing it to operate from austere, short-field bases and a range of air-capable ships.
LOCKHEED MARTIN F-35B LIGHTNING SPECS:
Powerplant: one Pratt & Whitney F135 turbofan rated at 40,000lb st (177.88kN) with afterburning and 40,500lb st (180.10kN) for vertical take-off
Length: 51ft 2¼in (15.60m)
Height: 14ft 3½in (4.36m)
Wingspan: 35ft (10.70m)
Wing area: 460sqft (42.70m2)
Maximum take-off weight: around 60,000lb (27,216kg)
Maximum speed: Mach 1.6
G rating: +7g
Combat radius: on internal fuel more than 450nm (833km)
Maximum altitude: 50,000ft
Armament: typically two AAMs and two bombs carried internally, with optional 25mm gun pod and underwing pylons enabling stores carriage up to 15,000lb (6,800kg)

@@LRRPFco52 "Most capable AESA and sensors of any fighter" No it doesn't, not quite. "Extremely safe, as in safer than 4th Gen fighters that take off and land normally." There aren't defined generations of jets; F-35 can't even supercruise.

@@jimmoynahan9910 Uh, yes. The APG-81/fused sensor suite in F-35 is without peer. There absolutely are significant differences between 4th Gen and 5th Gen. 1. Propulsion 2. Sensor Fusion 3. VLO 4. LPI net-centric connectivity 5. MMI 6. Software-driven upgradeability, with ease of modular hardware system replacement/upgradeability 7. Digital design with multi-system integration If you ever see people claiming 5th Gen is marketing hype, you know you're dealing with someone who has little or no knowledge about the differences in 3rd and 4th Gen major subsystems and design.

THE most awesome and phenomenal take off I ever saw at RAF Marham was in 1981 when a stripped down for overhaul Victor K2 tanker with a very light fuel load for the transit to St Athan made its departure. The pilot lined up as close to the edge of the concrete as he could with a head wind of 25 knots going over the wings before he even released the brakes. The local controller commented “ this is going to be good” and he wasn’t wrong. The pilot called for “take off” and we throttled the four Rolls Royce Conways up to 100% and released the brakes. The nose rose up and it got moving on the rising runway (as visible in this clip). By the time it reached the 01/19 intersection (just beyond how far you can see on this clip) it was airborne and climbing steeply. Such a shame it was never recorded but as someone who loves the Victor I will never forget it. Great footage Ted. 👍😁

Something like that gets permenantly burned onto ones brain ! I've seen 1 or two increadable stunts in the Israeli Air Force, one of which was a Kurnass 2000 (Israeli Super Phantom) getting chased by an F-15C. I've never ever seen a Phantom twist and turn like that while accelarating at near vertical. Or an all white windowless 707 praticing touch and go all morning 100m away from the shop, still with the original screetching engines. Or a quartete of Hammers squadron Phantoms slowly thundering don the full length of the runway with tripple afterburner shock diamonds, loaded with all 3 massive drop tanks and several tons of payload hanging off both pylons, at dusk twilight.

Such an amazing misunderstood aircraft. Capable of feeding data anhydride environments to other launching platforms on air sea and land along with performing untouched and heavy contested environments. Making the pilots decisions anywhere from 5 seconds to a full minute faster than even the closest competing aircraft. It will have a firing solution on a Target so much faster whether that is air-to-air or air-to-ground. Capable of swarm mode we're a group of f-35 can saturate an air defense and if one of them out of 10 find a targeting solution that means they all have it and one of them sees a threat that means they all do in the computer can work in the background on countermeasures both physical and countermeasures including electronic jamming pod release countermeasures and has a tow rope pod that mimics aircraft signature at the moment a missile locks onto it and amplifies the signature the missile has locked onto . All this and more will the put in the computer are still figuring out Target solutions

EF Typhoon takes a bit longer to rotate. If you do a conventional take off in the F-35, it has an impressive climb rate as well, and blistering acceleration from 200kts to Mach 1. Typhoon will push through the Mach faster if it's configured for A2A and has better supersonic acceleration performance, higher service ceiling. Typhoon was built primarily as a fighter/interceptor with semi-conformal carriage of 4x BVRAAMs and a great look-down, shoot-down fire control Radar, superb maneuverability. F-35 out-classes typhoon in detection range, tracking, PID, NCTR, and exploitation of WEZ/NEZ, by significant factors. We worked on the post-stall flight regime algorithms for the Typhoon before it was even born. Very wonderful jet for its era.

For reference, an F-16 carries 7,000 lbs internally, plus an additional 5,000lbs externally in draggy EFTs, which eliminate any weapons carriage on those stations. Typhoon carries 11,000 lbs internal. Each EFT for Typhoon is about 1,700 lbs of fuel, again negating a weapon on that station. F-35B has 4 internal weapons stations, 2 for BVRAAMs, and 2 for 1000lb class bombs.
