Thanks for the help. One thing I've learned that helps to fit tight pieces is this, Place the bearing races in the freezer over night. They contract and that helps them to seat faster.

hmm, that is a good idea.

Torque for the nut would be like 12 to 14 ft lbs while spinning the rotor with the caliper off, the loosen it & use only your hand to snug the nut back up. Turn the nut retainer around until the "new" cotter pin slides in easily or back it off a hair to get the cotter pin to slid in.

Juat want to say thank you for posting this. Seems the only video up on it.

That's a big reason why I post. Not much on 2WD models.

@@Soladaddy lol I had a time just trying to find the hubs/rotor. Had to search for rotors instead of hub bearings and the races come pre installed. I just changed the races and bearing on the rotors I already had. So they didn't make many 2wd dually extended cabs

@@hinds90my last rotor set was acquired from a local auto store and I couldn’t find a store that had a pair. One rotor box looked ancient.

Thanks for the video! I am getting ready to have to do a break job on my F350. But might I suggest that if you ever have to do it again you rent (for free) the bearing race driver set from your local auto parts store. It makes taking out and putting in the races and seals so much easier!

Yeah I'm done beating races. If replacing the rotors, many come with the races installed.

@@Soladaddy But without knowing what brand race it is, you'll chew up bearings. Every brand is slightly different and you shouldn't mix races and bearings between brands.

You take a socket of the same size OR use the old race to drive the new race in squarely. Face old one same direction as new one. Then you can use a solid punch to knock the old one back out again. Best part of this video: No Gloves !!! Kids today are afraid of getting their hands dirty or a little cut up, fuckin' hilarious...lol A shorter, more ridgid punch will walk those races out easier. Non the less, nice job sir.

LOL. I decided to start using gloves, bought a set, used maybe 3 pair, they ripped so no good and the wife proceeded to use the rest for cooking crafts with acrylic. I might try again one day. Good tip on setting the new race.

No they are two different sizes.

Man I forget. Probably amateur radio chatter. - Knew my bearings needed changing from hearing a roar that changed pitch with speed. More obvious at highway speeds.

@@timothycoleman8916 Betting the bearing is worn. Could try to retorque the bearing nut and see if the play disappears. Think its about 20 ft lbs to tighten then back it off to 18in lbs. Spin the wheel while tightening.

A bearing & race should be a matched set. Don't mix a bearing & race from two different manufacturers. Also don't use the race that already came pressed into your rotor, you need a matched set.
@Soladaddy11 ай бұрын
Using the matched set makes sense after the fact. I thought the right spindle was bad as the bearings were burning up after I paid a national chain shop to replace. They even replaced the bearing under warranty, but probably only the bearing. After I replaced them that issue stopped. Tis why I hate paying someone to work on my stuff.

Having an issue with right outer bearing on a dodge d150, grease turning black within a few thousand miles. Spindle looks perfect. Left bearing set still red from the high temp grease. Third right outer going in this week. Haynes (Dodge) says 25 ft lbs initial, then back off. When I was young, did this initial tightening by hand with standard short 3/8" drive socket wrench w/ adapter while spinning rotor till it felt snug- never had a problem. Will try old school method again. Maby too much initial that may have pushed grease out or bad Chinese metallurgy which I've come across many times with other auto parts in the last 5 years.
