On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

Keep going with the F-4 videos! Love seeing those Sparrow shots. The missile starts out going who knows where, and then it is like they say: "Hey, the bad guy is over there, let's ruin his day!". Then they start pulling lead on the target and then BOOM. I can see why you're so satisfied when they connect.

The F-4 was being phased out during my time in the AF and a lot of aircrews were transitioning to the F-16. The running jokes were: F-4, America's proof to the world, that with large enough engines you could make even a brick fly. And... The F-4 beats the sky into submission to let it fly through it. I did get some time in an F-4 simulator at Luke back in the 80's. Got it into an inverted, flat spin while playing with ACM. To this day, I don't know how I recovered. The other guy was laughing so hard at me, that when my Phantom snapped out of the departure, I pickled off a sidewinder to kill him. Those primitive simulators were the best we had at the time and DCS today is so much better. As a side note, I talked to an old MSGT who was in Viet Nam about his time there. He was a young radar troop then. He told me that the way they adjusted the output of the radar on the F-4, was to hold their hand out in front of the radar and time how long it took to get their hand warm! Really!

Fun (not)fact about the missile warning tone at minute 1:30 The engineer of the F4 Phantom was on vacation in Germany when he first heard about Beethoven - Für Elise. He immediately thought that this melody would be perfect to warn pilots about incoming missles and to calm them down at the same time. Excited, he flew home, told colleagues about his idea and drank a lot with said colleagues to celebrate. Unfortunately, after the drinking session he could only remember the beginning of the song, which he then stuck with...

I am a VERY proud former member of the 335thTFS "CHIEFS" (1984-1988) at Seymour-Johnson AFB NC. That phrase " The World's Largest Distributor of Mig Parts" was painted with a mural in the main hallway opposite of the squadron duty desk. Where I would sit with the OD and do flight following on the scheduling board. I would "step" the crews to the crew van, to the flight line and collect their flight data and paperwork for debrief. I also represented the squadron as First Sergeant and the Wing Advisory Board. MSgt USAF ret '73-'95

Look-down/shoot-down is always a bit challenging for the radar/sparrow combination, it seems. It connects better at an angle (larger available surface) before the background of an empty sky

I dont think DCS' damage model is granular enough to make that work. Thats one of the areas where DCS really doesnt do a good job at simulation.

Really like these DCS videos man I hope it never ends, and in case you want some ideas for missions can you try: Anti Ship strike missions. Helicopter Duals. Taking off from carrier and doing land strike. X2 morons with helicopters providing ground support. Escorting and defending VIP. Stealth missions with only the latest gen fighters. Destroy entire enemy base by escorting large fleet. X2 morons taking out boat fleet. X2 morons last hope for friendly base. X2 morons to the rescue.

i used to have a problem in the phantom where i was always too afraid to fire another sparrow just in case the other was about to hit so that i didn't waste a missile, i have since corrected that thinking by remembering to not waste my airframe.

F-4 was a major learning experience for the US military. It was supposed to be able to rely on sole missile kills. Powers at be decided gun engagement was a thing of the past and wasn't useful in the f-4. Technically, if you used the gun pod, you wouldn't have wasted those missiles

If you could as I see you have the same.radar.display when locked I do howndo you ensure the aim 7 tracks. Lock a target and have it under the pipper and I still can't get it to guide. Missing something. Please help. Maybe do an Phantom depending AWAC from Mig 21s and test the AIM 7 range as well. Thanks :)

I still think the biggesst shortcoming of the phantom is the abcense of a gun, "interesting" to see you struggle with sparrows and old sidewinders. Anybody knows if the heatblur Phantom will come with the gunpod? Would be nice to see a F8 Crusader in DCS though....
