It's AI can only be rivaled by the Halo games (at least up until Reach). Enemies flipping tables to take cover, trying to flank you, throwing grenades to flash you out, jumping through windows, it blew my mind back then. Too bad in FEAR 2 they didn't put much of a fight even on harder difficulties. They kinda fixed it with 3 but they removed the horror aspect almost completely there.

Ah, I was waiting for this video. F.E.A.R. is my favorite FPS, and I would argue that a big part what made it so memorable was not the combat or graphics, but the sound design. The sound effects in this game are criminally underrated. One of my most favorite video game memories is playing this game, and skittishly navigating a corridor, until my character accidentally kicked a soda can on the ground, and in middle of perfect silence, it gave me mini heart attack, because the sound was so clear and realistic. Also, the next time you play the game, notice how the enemies die; when their ragdolls fall on the floor, the sound effects convey a real feeling of weight, and it's very realistic. This is a problem most games still suffer from today, where the things you kill, do not have a sense of weight to them, and they just seem like weightless shapes falling over. F.E.A.R. excelled in details like these, and they're overlooked, because when they're done well, you don't notice. It just works. This game is awesome.

See if this is what you looked for and noticed back in the day when ykou were younger you probably have a good eye and insight on new games that come out now yea there were people back in the day who played this but did the type of things that you found impressive did they eveb notice or was it something that caught there eye although i would have only been 11 i think when this game came out (05' right?) I would have had intrest in the same details you mention you have that desire to be immersed into a game and its those type of gamers who have the most memorable and emotional instances with a game a lot of people/kids blaze though a game and never attempt to exploit all mechanics and physics that it has to offer but by the way you described the attention to detail and it still is something you can recall upon today just shows you were really into games back then as i was and others were to seeing it for more then a shooting game but what is the construct of that shooting game beyond a choice of guns and enemies

I've played through the campaign more times than I could count since I first played it around 2007 and still do occasionally. There's just something to the combat mechanics, feel of the weapons, the brilliant AI and the all out mayhem gunfights with muzzle flashes, sparks, smoke and chunks of debris that makes this such a deeply satisfying experience that no FPS since has really managed to top in my opinion. Oh and I still love the engine in this game, the graphics quality holds up well over a decade later, with textures and lighting effects that manages to outshine current titles in some regards and a level design that feels eerily realistic and immersive even to this day. And the sound, goddamn the sound design and music in this game alone makes it worth replaying over and over, it has a gloomy, ominous atmosphere like nothing else and makes me feel dread and unease every time despite countless times playing it. I know this game has gotten a lot of praise and has a loyal fanbase but I still think its an underrated title in the eyes of mainstream gaming. To me this game is significant on so many levels and the greatest leap the genre took since the Quake and original Half-Life days.

The level design benefits both the player and the AI as it gives both plenty of spots to take cover and avenues for flanking. The AI needs such level design to be as effective as it is since they only have 4 hardcoded instructions.

I still love the AI of this game. Still can't play it all the way through with the lights off...

38K until 1M. It feels like just yesterday that you were at like 200K and I was watching you Sims 3 videos. I'm so happy for you!

This game was under rated. Everyone brings up Halo as an older game with amazing enemy AI, and while it did have great AI for the time, F.E.A.R. was even better. The devs had to scale down the AI because it was too good, since the AI is commanded by your own computer which knows every move you make. The enemy knew when to flank and make you move but it wasn't rigged to the point that you had no options. They had to balance that factor with the "fun factor," and did a fantastic job. I haven't had that much fun with AI since then. Maybe fucking with soldiers in Half Life 2 using wall radiators, that's about it.

I don't know why but a bunch of LGR classic episodes are flooding my feed... and of course I love it.

One of the best games ever created and if not - the best all time FPS for me - superb gunplay, spooky atmosphere, great story!

I remember it being praised so much for the visuals and while i agree that they are certainly decent for the time, i always felt that HL2 and Max Payne 2 were much better looking games at that period. Still loved and enjoyed FEAR, good game

OH! F.E.A.R! I love this game so much! I remember the first time I saw this in a magazine and it amazed my friends and I. While at the same time being quite scared of it as well just because of the first impressions it gave. Back then before any of us had internet access (let alone find any gameplay of it) People would describe the horrifying and creepy experiences you had in the game. I can't really remember all the stuff people used to say back then. But I can kinda remember a lot of it sounding quite exaggerated to scare or impress everyone else. But when I did eventually played it l loved it to death for every reason essentially you mentioned in your video. Also of course the moments where I would get so caught up in the gameplay I would kinda for get it's meant to be a horror game and Alma would give me a freaking heart attack and I would have to pause the game for five minutes to gather myself. Truly an amazing game and I really wish the sequels had lived up to the legacy of the first game. (ESPECIALLY looking at you F.3.A.R. >.>) But amazing video as always Clint, Always just a fun and nostalgic look at a great game from already so many years ago. Thank you

Who needs smart AI in game? None, we just need the enjoyable one to shoot at ... And this game... till nowadays, No other fps even close...

I mean, I like having to strategize to take down smart AI. Cannon fodder is great, but sometimes tiresome.

This game is still in my top 5 favorite shooters. The experience of this game was just awesome. Spooky, psychological but still a straight up military shooter. The atmosphere is unmatched and game play goes from silent exploring to full blown spray and pray action and explosion's
