I dislike Reddit due to how people decide to downvote you. I had an issue due to a service animal in a hotel and me being kicked out for it. I went in there to try to see what my legal options were. my main post was down voted a lot then was asked by many to prove that my service dog was a service dog. so I did and that got down voted. I got so many down votes from people just being jurkoffs even though proving anything to them was related to my question. out of all the people circle jerking in there I get only one person that actually gave good advice but I ended up in the negatives in karma. so I deleted my post which got me banned but I never will go into r/legaladvice

the fun thing about that self advertising crap is, i posted music i made and it took me a while to make it, i was very proud of myself, and it got downvoted , but people said they liked it, (about 3 people) and a few comments complaining about my name, (becuse 'hurr durr yurr a furr' ' and things like that) and one person that caused me to get annoied, saying that self promotion is against the rules, but had themself posted artwork they had drawn and the subreaddit at that time was filled with people drawing there own fan art for the game of there own OC's and even linking directly to there deviant arts. so i snapped basicly yelling in typing saying what i do is no different to those who comissioned artwork and posted it or those who drew and wish to share with likeminded people, or even those who see a artwork they like and want to promote someone else, the responce i was given just say '"my girlfriend did it" and it would get more attention' but i dispise doing that, why should i lie about something i was proud of making just so others can basicly say how SHE (who i was with at the time) is so much better then myself which made me feel bad about doing what i liked. reddit is basicly a place that goes, 'oh hey you made this WELL YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE ..... *takes idea and turns around* LOOK WHAT I 'got'" "oh my god your amazing take all my money love and attention" it is a completely stupid system that punishes those who create wanting to share there creations and gives credit with those who dont link or give credit taking all the praise. also dont know why i typed a big rant XD probably been eating at me for a while XD

Your problem is wasting your time trying to get attention on the default subreddits; they're way too big and full of crap. I ditched most of those a while ago and my Reddit experience has improved dramatically. I only kept /r/AskReddit and /r/science because they have some occasionally promising threads. The smaller communities are generally both more focused and more welcoming, and have overall more interesting content anyways.

There's a writing website called Scribophile that uses the karma system. You have to earn 5 karma points to post one chapter/short story. To earn any, you have to comment, review, or critique other's stories. You'd think this was awesome, but one comment earns you 0.1 karma point. I never had time to review when I first joined, but I never earned enough points either. I dropped out and went to Wattpad.

Reddit is the absolute WORST site ever. Bar none. All the drama and incompetent mods made me reconsider joining, but what really made me decide to gtfo for good was when I shared a very serious cyberbullying story that happened when I was in high school about a *FREAKING 56-YEAR-OLD MAN* (or some little kid lying about his age) *WHO STALKED AND HARASSED ME FOR 3 YEARS NEARLY TO SUICIDE SIMPLY BECAUSE I LIKED SONIC,* only for others to instead only criticize MY behavior towards the guy who could've possibly been a legit psychopath, misconstruing it as "bullying", even though I constantly tried to explain that HE attacked me first, HE inflicted WAY more damage on me, HE willingly kept coming to me and harassing me to death over a little opinion on something. Nobody listened. They only kept accusing me of making excuses, and claimed that they were just trying to "help" me. But when I (naturally) got angry at them for their bullshit, distorting my story, misrepresenting me as the bad guy simply because I reacted and then claim to have good intentions, they all started accusing me of "trolling", not even once addressing WHAT pissed me off in the first place. Nobody backed me up. All those comments trying to misrepresent me as the bad guy were all getting upvoted and cheered on. I not only get bullied nearly to suicide, especially over a fucking video game series, I had others try to give me the extra burden of guilt via misrepresenting me as the bad guy. They basically expected me to do absolutely nothing as I got harassed, lest I'm no better than him. I guess in that logic, if a bully threatened me, I'm not allowed to fight them off and save my own skin or I become a bully too? All because some jerk accused me of "bullying". Please, don't ever go to Reddit. It'll be the ABSOLUTE last thing you'll ever do. Don't make the same mistake I did. TL;DR: I talked about getting bullied simply for liking Sonic, I talked about it on Reddit only to have others instead misrepresent me as the bad guy simply over the fact I reacted to his initial attack.

Reddit is a narcissistic shit-hole and most reddit moderators are basic scumfucks. They may not "dox" people to intimidate or silence them like a real scumfuck but they ban people based on their post and karma history - which is basically the same thing: scumfuckery to silence another person. Add moderator multi-accounting into the equation and you get equally reprehensible attributes between both kinds of scumfucks.

I kinda thought the whole needs 10 karma to post things on a major subreddit thing made sense? Basically, it's to stop spammers and trolls. Since making an account is free and ridiculously easy you don't want a freshly made bot spamming links to a new cool thing. In the larger subs, there's just too many posts, by miles - Reddits subreddit system is REALLY bad at handling too much content at once - since it's far too easy for gems to be missed during the waterfall of content while anything that snaps up attention quickly swiftly reaches the top. This is why /r/funny gets a whole tonne of shitty and lazy jokes reaching the top - they require minimum attention to work out and spot, so they get more upvotes, not saying that's a good thing - quite the opposite in fact, but it's why it happens. The reason the athur 'joke' got attention isn't the punchline it's the fact it's Arthur and he's immediately recognizable so people click it. The whole spammer thing I.... I understand its concepts but I fully agree 10% is far, far too low a threshhold, like you have to be spamming a lot of useless crap to make your own content 10% or lower, which then only adds to the problem of waterfalls of content clogging up the actually useful stuff. Honestly, they're both very imperfect solutions to a very complicated problem. The way the waterfall of content is there's no way moderators can handle it all, so they have to set-up pre-emptive nets to try and stop people causing issues before they happen. This is why I think a lot of people much prefer the smaller/medium sized Subreddits - they're small enough to be moderated properly and because there's not a lot OF content people have more time to actually read through what's posted rather than rushing to try and read it all.

Once i joined Reddit (20 mins ago) i tried posting, but iut got removed for not having a question mark and i had to wait 10 minutes. The downvote button is also overused. For example, say you post an opinion, but the people replying didn't get the exact message and are criticizing you for the wrong reason. You try to explain, and you'll get flooded with downvotes. Another scenario. Say you post a controversial thread. Someone in the comment asks a question having nothing at all to do with what your thread is talking about, such as what poop is made of or whatever. You either tell him the answer or tell him the post has nothing to do with what he is saying, and you'll get downvoted because when people see your comment they're like "oh this is the same guy who posted this thread, so I'll still downvote this as well". Another example. Say you use a very old meme that is no longer used because you do not know how the meme world is doing. You'll then get downvoted to sh*t because it's a dead meme. The Reddit community is harsh as hell and literally expects you to know everything that's going on 24/7 and expect you to be an exact perfect person. It's ridiculous.

I agree with everything that you said. The only thing i use reddit for really is /r/furry, which luckily is a friendly place (i currently have 132 karma from that subreddit alone) and so i haven't experienced any of this luckily. Reddit is really just a sharing platform and if people like it the congrats you get a bunch of karma. Its almost like being a news agent, you try to find the best material that will get you profit, even if what you share isn't even entertaining in anyway. I try to keep my content original most of the time, however this often does not work in other subreddits. Some of the policies reddit has are damn right retarded and need to be changed.
