That's one of my favorite stones. I just got the new CC4 today. Instead of a diamond plate if has a very fine white ceramic stone on top of the standard ceramic stone. I look forward to trying it. I hold mine the same way you hold yours.

Cool stone and pouch for the price! It's $20 here and I just bought it off your review. Seems like it'll be good to keep my knives decent sharp in the field. Like how it's nice and small! Take care and keep up the great videos
@SpartanJohns9 жыл бұрын
+LPD Hartman Thank you. When I bought it, here, it was a bit more expensive. But for me it was definitely worth the money. Sometimes when I go out with little gear I will include this stone. does not take too much room and it gets the job done.
@Mat-kr1nf7 ай бұрын
1:28 That’s why I like the Fallkniven CC4, the white side is excellent for a fine edge at 9 microns, the coarser ceramic side is 15 microns, compared to 25 microns for the diamond side on the DC3/4, not sure what the other side is on them; also, the leather case is designed to be used as a strop. I also have the DC4 as well though, taking both doesn’t add to your weight at all, so why not?😁
@SpartanJohns7 ай бұрын
I got a cc4 a few years back, from a friend. Pair that up with a D4 and some compound in the leather case. But can’t say i’m too happy with how the case/strop works. Been meaning to get the spyderco double stuff 2.

I had heard that there are two different diamonds sides on the market, a silver and a gold-colored, apparently the silver better, but I have no DC4 I would personally prefer them in the beginning have been seperated thanks for showing atb steve
@SpartanJohns9 жыл бұрын
+so steve I do not know about the ones with the silver colored diamond plate... It is very easy to separate the diamond side from the ceramic side...a heat gun will help you do that very quickly. Thanks

Decided to try one of these after I lost my Spyderco 303. I miss the Spyderco, it puts an excellent edge on your knife. The fallkniven is extremely course on both sides.
@SpartanJohns7 жыл бұрын
mine was also coarse on both sides...the diamond side wore off with use. i worked over the ceramic side to make it smooth and to even it out. I have no intention of replacing it now. just hope to get another 10-20 yearss of use out of it
@Traderjoe9 жыл бұрын
I sharpen and maintain exactly the same. My DC4 also separated and I store them like you do and have no issues either. I do worry a little that the metal might have been supporting the ceramic and preventing it from snapping under load, but so far Ive not had that happen. They do fine for me as they are and if I did lose it or break it, I would probably buy another since it really isn't not that expensive and any gear that can last 4 or 5 years or so and still work fine is good in my book! Great video Denis! Merry Christmas to you and yours too!
@SpartanJohns9 жыл бұрын
+traderjoes Thank you! I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year as well. About the diamond plate helping with the DC4's stability...that is one reason why I keep them together..in case I put this in my back pocket and sit down...I hope that I won't crack the stone. No chance of that happening in the woods now but in the summer...at the cabin..there is a higher chance since I do carve a lot and carry this in my pocket for quick touch-ups
@frankmontez68532 жыл бұрын
Soo how long did the diamond side keep sharpening? I just ordered one for my higher end S35VN steel knife. Was recommended by this other video because it’d take longer with a regular sharpening stone.

it's always great to get a review after something was in use for many years! Thanks for that! A lot of people tend to do a review after a few weeks and then never again but the crucial part is weather a piece of gear will work for many years or not. I generally still have trouble with sharpening my knives. Flat-grinds with a microbevel are a nightmare for me but even a scandi-grind can be hard for me to get sharp :/
@SpartanJohns9 жыл бұрын
+LionheartSJZ when learning to sharpen knives the important thing is to practice a lot. long term reviews are a cool thing. I have a few. however, when i review a piece of gear, if omething changes during the coure f its life, i always make an update.

Is that the new Pikkusissi M23 carving knife you have?
@SpartanJohns7 ай бұрын
No. If i remember correctly it is either the enzo trapper or the mora 510

Not a Trapper, that was my first decent bushcraft knife, in green micarta (first bushcraft one was a Mora Robust). It’s a lovely knife but the handle is a tad too small for me, unfortunately.
@frankmontez68532 жыл бұрын
So , how long would you say the diamond side kept sharpening? Just ordered one.
@SpartanJohns Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. I stull use the diamond side to clean out spines of knives. If you take care of it and don't do what I did(usee way too much pressure when sharpening and plane out your ceramic stones with it) you should be able to use it for sharpening jobs for a long time

Years ago I worked in a restaurant. The chef taught me how to sharpen the kitchen knives using a diamond dust impregnated steel. It was my job to keep all the knives in the kitchen sharp. It was not until KZbin that I learned that we have so many option for keeping an edge on a knife. Never tried using a stone but I learned something today.
@SpartanJohns9 жыл бұрын
+EconoChallenge before I got into knives I knew of a few things, oil/water stones, diamond stones and leather strops. I only found out about steel hones and denim strops and ceramic stones later.... i never thought of using a tile or a brick or a car window....but it is really interesting. for me, this little ceramic stone is really all i need to do small touch-ups in the woods...and for the price you can get it, it really makes sense....

It never stopped working. I still have it! It still works! If you like having the diamond side attached to the ceramic side some superglue will take care of that. Where is the confusion here? The ceramic side is great! I clean it off every once in a while and for small touch-ups it is grrrrreat(tony would say)

+K5Somber Just like the DC4. It is smaller but the same shape... You would need to mind your fingers a bit more, I guess
@frankmontez68532 жыл бұрын
Hmmm thought that yeah the price was too low for it to be premium very long lasting sharpener. I guess one gets what one pays for. Just ordered one because another video recommended it for my Buck fixed blade S35VN steel blade. That regular sharpener take too long and diamond is the way to go. Much easier.

Nothing beats proper bench stones for sharpening no, but good luck taking those along on a trip. Now I have multiple wet stones from grit 240 up to 5000 but I learned to sharpen on pocket stones like that (opinel stone) They work and are invaluable to take with you backpacking or just simple bushcraft.
@whiskeyriver43228 жыл бұрын
So basically, after two minutes, you've told us this stone is crap! I didn't bother to watch the rest of the video. Thirty bucks, or 30 Euros for a stone that needs to be re-profiled by the buyer, is 30 bucks too much. A diamond abrasion surface that wears down after running a few knives across it, is a failure; as well as the plate and stone separating. The stone sucks in it's original state......... Period!!! You're better off with a cheap hard arkansas stone from Smith's or Lansky, or some Eze-Lap diamond hones. Thank you for watching!
@SpartanJohns8 жыл бұрын
+Whiskey River (Doc) well...if that is what you want to take away from this video...ok.
@HieuTran-iy8bu7 жыл бұрын
in my opinion, the values of DC4 are the compactness, the efficient of the ceramc side. All diamond side of any brand will stop remove the metal from your blades (or stop cutting like SpartanJohns said). It is a good stone for a long day trip without professional shaperning stones which are heavy like bricks. STOP complain about the price, bro.
@seanb69866 жыл бұрын
Whiskey if that’s what you think about knives as well, I feel bad for your best knife, the amazing Mora clipper, which has 3/4 of it missing, but it’s still your primary knife because you don’t want to damage your very expensive Mora Bushcrafter, which is sitting in a glass case
@smokinjoe12566 жыл бұрын
Arkansas or lanskys are the most useless sharpening tools you can buy also DMT. almost every americanmade sharpening tools are shit compared to the competitors. rather buy a ezelap or atoma. the diamond side of the dc is very nice but not the longest lasting....the ceramic side is actually the best available....better than any other mini ceramic I ever had. abrasive, fine, durable and good price.
