F1 2012 Gameplay - Champions Mode - Fernando Alonso

In this video I compete against the fifth champion in Champions mode at Monza, Italy. In this challenge I start 7th and must catch and pass Fernando Alonso, who starts on pole.
I found it reasonably easy to get into the lead in this race, but I couldn't pull away from Fernando. After 5 laps I only managed to pull a 2 second gap.
This game is being played on PC on high settings. I have got it on hard with all assists off.

The sound QUALITY will be my fault, as I uploaded it in too lower sound bitrate. And I dunno about the gloves, they do look a little strange..

Unfortunately, they have removed that feature this year. You can do single races, but not an entire championship as a default driver. :(

Thank you! If you have and even still play F1 2011, then definitely get 2012. Last year, some people preferred 2010 and some preferred 2011, but this year they really have captured the best of both worlds. Its a must have for all F1 fans and past Codemasters F1 games purchasers!

I play with a wheel, the Logitech Driving Force GT. If you are playing with a keyboard, it is massively difficult. I have also played with a PS3 controller, which is playable. So you ideally want a wheel, if not a console controller is pretty good.

I'm not too sure I understand your question? You do have to be in the pits in order to change tyres, yes. There is no refueling in modern Formula 1 though.

It works with most steering wheels. If you Google 'F1 2012 supported steering wheel' you will find a list of officially support wheels, but others work too.

No, unfortunately not. If you are interested, this will be because of memory and processing power limitations because of the game consoles. When we get the next generation of consoles, games will take a huge leap forward. For example, have you noticed that all the big screens for spectators around the track display exactly what you are seeing? This is the same issue.

The 100% distance is exactly what it is in real life, which changes for each track.

judge it by yourself: he made it from 7th to 1st in 3 corners and this is supposed to be "champion mode" meaning it's probably one of the hardest modes of the game itself. If you try a proper decent simulation, (not a professional one) like, let's say, Live For Speed, you can consider yourself pretty good driver if you can manage to get to the end as second to last or middle of the field indeed. That's a proper gift in my opinion for an F1 fanatic. cheers!

Yes, Codemasters use the work 'authentic'. Meaning it isn't a hardcore simulator, but that doesn't mean it is massively arcadey. :P I like hardcore simulators, and I love this game. :) It would make a perfect gift. :D

Well the sound is improved over F1 2011, I think it sounds ok. Have you seen the Torro Rosso gloves? They look strange as well!

It is better to play it with a steering wheel for sure, yes. However, Codemasters have made huge strides with the handling with the controller.

Not on Champions mode, it is fixed. On quick race you can change it to 3 though, but you can't customise it yourself, only a list of a few.

In terms of out and out speed, they are similar to F1 2011, perhaps a little faster. However, they have made massive strides forward with the race craft of the AI. They are a lot more aggressive in the race, and really punish you if you make a mistake and go wide. For me, this alone is worth buying F1 2012 as it really does make a huge difference in offline races, where I spend most of my time.

It is very good! Especially if you have played F1 2011, it is a big step up. As for the difficulty, I would say that Legendary AI is around the same speed, but their racecraft has been massively improved.

Well a 3 lap race is only around 5 minutes, but I suspect you are talking about Career mode. In this mode the lowest you can set it is 25%. It may seem long, but any shorter would be a little pointless in career. The new modes (like champions mode) are there for the people that haven't got bundles of time to commit!

Perhaps you should play the game before passing judgement. In fact, 'Champions Mode' is named so because you have to compete against all 6 world champions, but you can't set the AI to the hardest level. So no, this isn't the hardest game mode and yes, you do need skill to drive it well.

you can put any numer of laps with the database editor. i made all the tracks have 20 laps so 25% would be 5 laps

Finally someone that can drive... Just a suggestion for people who like racing games.... Throw your ps3 or xbox in the bin buy a good decent pc and buy a logitech g27 steering wheel for 200$. U will not regret... These games are so bad with controlers..

I could this race to be way harder than any of the other ones to get gold. I have no idea why but I just plain suck and the comers on this track. I'm using a controller though so I think that is part of the problem. You can't be nearly as smooth and you pretty much have to take the corners at the exactly correct speed so that your turning the correct amount when you have the thumb stick slammed all the way to the side. Lucky on one of my attempts Fernando got taken out in the first corner.

Do you drive using this "over the helmet" point of view, or is this just a POV that you chose for replay purposes? Just wondering... when I used to play racing games alot, I always found the first-person in car camera the easiest and most natural way to drive. By the way, great driving!
