Before we didn't have a cap and teams could spend as much as they wanted Ferrari and merc going over 350 million for a few years

Toyota in the latter years of 2000's was spending even more than that Billions of dollars across the years to not win a single race
@nicoladc897 ай бұрын
They continue to spend 3/400M, probably more. The drivers salaries, the top manager salaries and more than other, the engine production costs, are not taken into account on the budget cap. For example, Ferrari the next year will spend 155M of the budget cap, plus 100M for the salaries of Leclerc and Hamilton, plus the salary of (I don't know who are the 3 top paid managers) Vasseur, Cardile and Ioverno, for example. Added to this are logistics costs, travel and marketing expenses, registration and license fees, staff bonuses, parental and sick leave and - I repeat - the engine production costs.

They were actually closer to 450-500 million a year, absolutely insane.

In the past, F1 engines went up to 19,000-22,000 rpm, creating that unique howling sound that the v10 & v12 engines made. And Neal, also have a look at the "World's Fastest Camera Drone Vs F1 Car (ft Max Verstappen)". It's a hoot to watch, certainly in higher resolutions above 1080p.

I live down the road from NASA and the comparisons between an F1 car and a launching an aircraft into space are why I find the two fascinating. I go to NASA and walk along and underneath the Saturn 5 rocket, and I can look at one panel of literally thousands and see 100 screws bolted down, and you think how many people had to work day and night, year after year to perfect this. F1 is just like that. All credit is usually given to the driver, but the amount of people per driver that work just to make sure both on track and at the factory, and in the sims, and through travel, and social media and on and on, that keep that machine going and hopefully winning, is incredible. I love that the sport is constantly changing with new regulations, and the constant desire to be the best is a never ending battle against teammate and against other teams.

Love to see how you are interested in more than just the drivers and races. I hope you will one day have the cance to go to COTA (or Miami or Vegas of course but I would say COTA is the purest experience when it comes to F1 in the USA) You have seen the drone flight video right? If not find it on the Red Bull Channel, epic footage.

He should look at Canada as well. That might be cheaper than going to the US races.

You should watch the video Inside Story Mercedes Strategic Masterclass Spain 2021 and the video How F1 Teams Decide Their Pit Strategy. Its an in-depth insight about how the team strategists work cohesively.

The budget cap takes into account all expenses, except the salaries of the drivers and the two top managers, costs of logistic and the engine production (not all the teams produced their engines, at today there are 4 engines manufacters: Ferrari, Mercedes, Honda and Renault). So 135M (155 in 2024) is not only to build and design the cars. By the way, this is a limit imposed few years ago, in the past teams like Mercedes, Red Bull or Ferrari spent more than that. The top teams have around 1000 employees only to design, produce and race 2 cars.
