Would you believe that just last night I was looking for a review on this game and couldn't find one worth watching. I thought maybe Glenn Plant will review soon...no joke. What do I find in my subscription feed this afternoon?? Glenn Plant delivers! Thank you for this review! I'd say F1 World Grand Prix is the best F1 game on the N64. That being said, at the time, Playstation had the world class, Formula 1 Championship Edition (97 outside the US) by Psygnosis. Couldn't beat the presentation, graphics, and sound. Most importantly it had the great Murray Walker (RIP) and the ever technical Martin Brundle that really brought the game to life. As a rare US F1 fan (especially back then), these games were always exciting for me. F1 Pole Position 64 was underwhelming for sure, but any decent representation of the sport was welcome in my view. Thanks again for the great work and effort you put into your reviews for our beloved N64.

Love the story about your local shop. Mine was just forced to move after being close to home for over 40 years! My mom went there when she was a kid (they sell records and all sorts of stuff), and I'd say nearly half of all the allowance I earned as a kid was spent there on old games. Gave me fond memories hearing you talk about how you got this game. Sometimes that's half the fun. Even if its a little 5 dollar game you play once or twice, its fun to have a bit of a story about the kooky lady at flea market you got it from, or how the game you were lookin for wasn't there so you went with the next best thing and ended up loving it. I still try to go out and buy games in person from time to time, even if it means spending a little more than I know it's worth. As for the best F1 game on the N64, it's definitely F1 World Grand Prix. I just picked it up recently as I've been in an F1 mood, and I was shocked how good its held up, once you get used to the handling. Unfortunately I live in the US so I can't pick up the sequel. Oh well.

The 1996 F1 season is one of my favorites to watch. A thrilling title battle between former test driver Damon Hill and newcomer Jacques Villeneuve, as well as Schumacher in a Ferrari for the first time (and struggling a bit) made it a season to remember. There, Ultra HDMI to capture your gameplay! It's no use saying that S-video is enough for the blurry visuals of our dear 64 Bit console, RGB always, no less! If everyone thinks that the PS1 is excellent with all that horrible dither in RGB, why can't the Nintendo 64 enjoy the same quality provided by the pure RGB signal? I don't have access to the HDMI mods that are being made for the retro consoles in my country, but the RGB board, SCART cables and good scalers (OSSC, GBS Control and Retrotink) are available so my Nintendo 64 is RGB modded since 2016, and I love seeing It in action, It gives new life to every game!

There was a Ubisoft PC game, F1 Racing Simulation, that came out in 1997 and was based on the previous year's season. But it really was just that and Pole Position 64; Bizarre Creations skipped 1996 and went straight to 1997 for their second F1 game, which makes sense as otherwise they'd have been constantly a year behind.
@avflashback89133 жыл бұрын
I owned all the official F1 games on the N64. There were four and the best one for me was F1 Racing by Ubisoft. It's quite a uncommon game. It was based on the 1999 F1 season. It was the 2nd worst looking F1 game after F1 pole position 64 but the car handling and audio was the best and it had all the proper TV style timing HUDs and animated pit stops. The game also had a really good arcade mode where you had a ticking clock and you had to finish in a certain position before the clock ran out. You had 3 credits and there was a arcade style "hall of fame" leader board as well.

I never liked the centre-of-the-car steering used with this game (ok, a lot of games did this too in these early 3D racer times!).... you just turned around a central pivot, which felt bad! I also wasn't a fan of the car graphics - very pointy, blocky, and on the wheels that outer, and inner, texture was always bigger (and very rough) than the actual wheel itself, so it always looked like the tire was about to delaminate!! I was glad to see the following F1 World games come along, but they suffered from very poor frame rates at times.....something that seems quite typical for N64 games! It was a very advanced system - ahead of it's time almost, but so many games struggled to hold a steady frame-rate, and not doing anything more taxing - at least visually - over what the PS1 was doing with ease at that time! I loved my N64 - Goldeneye, Turok, Super Mario, StarWars Rogue Squadron, Doom 64, Quake 2, etc were fantastic games, but most struggled at times; many struggled a lot of the times with frame rates..... And, that fog on so many was horrible! I ended up preferring the PS1 with it's rougher, unfiltered graphics, where the games ran so much more smoothly, even if the graphics were more blocky. Thanks anyway, for this video... it reminded me that I have this cartridge in my stash, and had forgotten all about it! Maybe I'll boot-it up again for S&Gs.....
