@@WheelsInTheSky that’s awesome! Got to fly in a Rocket once and really liked it allot! Would love to own one at some point. Did you receive training in the Rocket prior to buying yours or have previous experience in something similar (RV, Extra, etc.)?
@WheelsInTheSky Жыл бұрын
@Ethan. Prior to the Rocket, I didn’t have any tail wheel experience, but I knew I wanted one. So I got about 5 hours in a friends J3 Cub. Then went down to the Houston area to see Bruce Bohannon, and got 4 hrs in his RV8. He does a very good job instructing and he gave me my tail wheel endorsement. About a month later I bought my Rocket. When I took off to bring it home, I just made sure to push the power up slow, because I was kinda uncertain what to expect. When I got to my Home airport, I made a couple approaches before trying to land. It was all an exciting experiment. I was so excited that day!! I think the name Rocket is more of a sales tactic than a description. The plane is just an RV8 with a bit more power and a longer nose that’s hard to see over. But as you know from flying one, they look and sound cool and are a blast to fly.

@@WheelsInTheSky I'm new to F1.... why is the RV8 tail and wings put on an F1 over the F1 items?
@WheelsInTheSky2 жыл бұрын
@bertraminc. A couple years ago I had researched the difference between the F1 and the Harmon Rockets. As I recall, my impression was that the Harmon was a modified RV4 and the F1 was an F1 kit. I think maybe at one time when a complete F1 kit wasn’t available, guys had to get some RV4 wings. The best source would be to google “Team Rocket “ and then call Vince or whoever answers. I know they’ll be glad to talk to you. Even happier to sell you a kit. Nice fellow, I’ve talked to him on phone a few times and met at Oshkosh. My buddy is building an F1 right now. It’s an early kit, but complete with wings and tail. I did notice on Joes Harmon, his tail is shorter than on my F1.

Hello Sir Hamsalot. They are pretty similar. Probably the biggest difference would be the engine. RV8’s have a 4 cylinder and Rockets have a 6 cylinder engine. After that, the most noticeable is probably the windscreen and canopy. The Rocket windscreen has a more gradual slope and the aft portion of the canopy then blends into the fuselage. Whereas the canopy on the RV8 appears to sit on top of the plane. Thanks for watching!

Hey Maverick. They seem to range between $120 to $190k. The Harmon Rockets seem to be a bit more on the lower end and the F1 a bit higher. I’m not sure why, the Harmons are quite nice.

Hi Jonny, I’m kind of an average pilot, so I’m sure you can. It’s mostly about having a plane. I’d recommend looking at something in the RV series.

@Rob Carter. Lol. Lots of amazing country out here. Where are you at? I’ll fly southern Utah till it gets too hot, then head up to Idaho. Probably be camping in Idaho in July. So much country to explore! Thanks for watching.

Bob Ross quit painting and took up flying...

Lol. Well, you could do both, but if you only do one- make it flying. I just got back from the local airport mostly hung out, little flying. I enjoy just going hanger to hanger, talking airplane. It’s been a good day! Thanks for watching.
