As a hardcore motorsport enthusiast, these are the best produced crash documentaries I have ever seen. I love how the focus is on the human story of the driver and the situations that led to the crash and the changes that were made in the aftermath. Most videos/docs focus on the sensationlization of the crash and is more about click- bait for non-motorsports types. This is also the motus operandi of many outlets that broadcast motorsports events. These series of documentaries clearly involves a great deal of effort and research and as a motorsport ethusiast, I really appreciate your efforts. Kudos for the excellent effort producing these documentaries!!!

Thank you! I am also in the same boat when it comes to modern-day crash content on YT & it was that which was one of the original influences behind this project, simply because I had grown fed up of that kind of content & thought, as racing fans, we deserved better 🙂

You got that right. This brilliant video production is as good or better than any for the sport. There's definitely a better way to tell a story which honors the drivers and their families instead of carnage. Instantly subscribed 29:14

33:39 Fun fact: The driver involved in this terrifying flip is Hans Herrmann, and the clip itself is from the 1959 German Grand Prix, held at the notorious AVUS. Herrmann not only survived this crash, but was also unhurt, thanks to nothing but sheer good luck. As of writing this, Herrmann is the last surviving F1 podium finisher from the '50s, with his 97th birthday coming up on the 26th of February.

Oh my God, I am so excited! Looks absolutely fabulous already! Having François in there to make this one in emotional one for me, I think he’s one of the biggest tragedies Formula One has ever seen. I’m pretty sure it was Jackie’s wife that caught that shot of François, pulling his visor down and giving the French kiss right before his accident, that part gets me in the gut every time
@kevingame31989 күн бұрын
@AuntieSmelly yeah but it’s the description of death that is… gruesome in detail decapitations in motorsport persisted until 1995 with the death of Russell Phelps in NASCAR that is probably the most gruesome death that feels something out of a Mortal Kombat or doom game

I absolutely love these documentaries. So factual, so entertaining and so human. Human in that they showcase the stories and characters of each driver. Not matter how underrated, unknown or untouchable in their greatness. These are properly well done. And this episode is one of my all time favourites. And it’s over two parts, which makes it even more tantalising and intriguing. Again these are super amazing to watch as well as being very educational. I’ve learned so many new facts and aspects to many of these drivers and events. If this series was up for a televisual award for KZbin made documentary series. This would be a real top scorer, if not outright winner.

Foreshadowing; Denny hulme describing almost the same type of accident he would go on to have driving a three series BMW at Bathurst, difference being he suffered a stroke prior to making contact with the wall.
@Yukino-0147 күн бұрын
This Bathurst race was particularly sad. Race winner Jim Richards was a good friend of Denny Hulme. He was only informed about his death moments before stepping up to the podium with his teammate Mark Skaife, where the crowd then verbally tore them apart for winning in a Nissan against the fan-favourite Fords and Holdens. This prompted Richards' infamous "You're a pack of arseholes" comment to the crowd. Also, Hulme's teammate in that race was a young debutant bloke called Paul Morris, making his second attempt at the mountain. I like to think that Hulme continued to watch over him from up there, all the way until Morris finally won the Bathurst 1000 in 2014, after 22 years of trying his best.

You've really done this very respectfully. You tell their stories and what changes were made. As much as I love the danger aspect of early f1 but I'm so glad we're in a period where a drivers death is a shock. I still remember watching Roman groas. Crash and thinking i just watched someone die and being in complete shock and then tears of happiness when that absolute badass climbing out of the fire. Also his interview with Martin Brundle and him saying how he nearly accepted death before remembering his family before getting out. I have to say. I started watching f1 because of Antoine Hubert f2 accident. I'm a morbidly curious person. Also thanks for reading this, I'm dyslexic and hate commenting on the internet but i just wanted to say how much i loved this series

the one thing i sometimes think about is what's going through the cameracrew's heads. do they know that they're filming someone perish right in front of them? how do they feel about it?
@MotorMad7 күн бұрын
That's a good question actually. I do believe that they will know in their heads, but at the same time they are being paid to film things, It'll be up to the main studio to decide if us actually see what they are filming. Not so much in the early years though since they would've had maybe just a couple of cameras around & just like everyone else, they probably just accepted it as being a regular occurrence.
@gchampi25 күн бұрын
Point of Order! Jochen Rindt HATED the early Lotus 72, not trusting the inboard brakes which repeatedly had problems in testing. He had planned to drive the 49C at Monza, but Colin Chapman refused to allow this, cancelling the car's shipment to the track. Given the choice of the 72 or no car, Jochen took the 72 out, but he was NOT HAPPY with having to use the car he didn't trust... I don't know which sources you used for this segment, but from all the account's I've read from drivers of the time, the early 72 was a spooky, spooky thing, darting around under braking as the brakes heated/cooled at random. It was one of those cars that were utterly amazing when it worked properly, but utterly terrifying if it didn't...

Musso although he did have gambling problems did come from a very wealthy family. What did help him though is that exactly a year before his death he won the non championship Reims Grand Prix together with the £10,000 prize (equivalent to £205,000 today.) It's doubtful I think that if anything was on his mind that day, his debts weren't one of them.

Im exactly the same never liked F1. But i loves these videos its really interesting. The tracks and cars caused 90% of deaths it seems. Its shocking. Bad brakes. Tires steering rack. Broke budget too. Its insane. Why do they even bother? The taam money is just loss money pitt. No matter what you spend its not enough ferrari redbull will double their budget. I saw FIA car and thought yes. That would be cool. The FIA team they need to work harder at bringing new teams in. But youve taught me F1 is bs still. The car might say Mercedes-Benz or whatever it wants to say. But is it? What parts does Mercedes actually make? Maybe alot but as kid i was confused aF about Sauber whatever. They the real ones. Mercedes-Benz just took over for them. Cadilac coming to F1 😂😂😂 thats just hilliarious the one thing they might have and they buy ferrari engine's 😂😂😂 Not some monstrous LS re print. Bennington Benneton they the resl ones. Lola. Liger. Whatever. Lola has the GT40 and Ford stole it from them. 😢
