I want to do mine, i am just thinking instead of pushing a fish-wire through, Could you just remove those handles on sides and lower the side of roof to get to that wire channel, am just saying?

why not tap into the rear view mirror power source? I saw someone else do that on youtube and it *looks* easy... but im afraid to take apart any part of my BMW

You can, and should do that. Far easier. I was unaware of that connection point when I did the install. Although if adding a supplemental battery for the camera, the fuse box is probably better.

@@crystalworks1 any tips on where to buy the USB cable with tiny prongs to tap into the power plug?
@crystalworks1 Жыл бұрын
@@CheezWhiz360 Unfortunately, no. Seems there are many cables available for different chassis and cameras it gets confusing.

Any problems with your battery going dead? (u have 1 battery or two?) after hardwiring? Some add the battery packs to help with the park monitoring after suv is turned off.

We had the single battery version. If we left the camera plugged in for money than 2 or 3 days without driving the vehicle we would get the battery discharge warning msg on iDrive. But the battery monitoring (IBS) would never let the battery die. It would shut off the circuit that the camera was on to prevent a dead battery. So even if we forgot about the camera, we never came out to a vehicle that wouldn't start. Let me know if you have any other Q's.

What fish wire did you use?
@crystalworks18 ай бұрын
For running the wires front to back of vehicle? I used 2 6' glow rods that are normally used for running wires in insulated walls. Picked them up at Lowe's years ago for house work but have used them many times running wires through headliners.

Have you disconnected the battery before doing the the job?
@crystalworks12 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. No, I left the battery connected during the job. But be sure to put a trickle charger on the vehicle or the battery will be flat by the time you're finished.
