When it comes down to it all, the F150 and Mustang Coyote are incredibly similar. The major differences come down to the intake cams, tuning, exhaust manifolds, and intake manifold. F-150 Coyotes are less performance-focused, but given the price differences, there’s no wonder that people are interested in using them for Coyote swaps.

I work for the company that molded/manufactured the Gen 2 air intake manifolds for both the F150 and the Mustang. I can confirm 100% that the manifolds are different. This goes beyond just the silver colored upper cover shell of the Mustang manifold. The truck manifold does have longer runners. This difference necessitated the need for different injection molding and vibration welding tools between the two manifolds.

I think Ford should release a special 'sport' version of the F150 with a slightly modified version of the Mustang spec engine. It wouldn't be complex to do, and it would be perfect for those who mostly use their half-tons as family cars and want something more fun/special. The short tubular headers on the Mustang engine serve a fairly important purpose for managing exhaust pulses more efficiently over the cast log manifolds of the F150. Better mid to top-end torque/power. This is also the reason for going with good long-tube headers on a Mustang; even better flow management at high revs.

Very interesting, great details here. Love the engine, my friend had a '12 GT convertible she let me drive a few times. However: the praise heaped on the Coyote at the start, all of that could also be said of the LS engine (moreso the newer LT). Other than power per liter, which is of course meaningless.
@senorpepper3405

doesn't the coyote weigh more than the 6.2 ls and lt motor. the coyote makes more power per liter is a technicality of sorts.
@nthgth
@nthgth 3 жыл бұрын
@@senorpepper3405 I do not know their weights, I would imagine they're fairly close but DOHC heads certainly are not light. Power-per-liter is a dick-measuring thing for the manufacturer and the brand's more juvenile fans. And in situations that specifically impose displacement limits (such as race leagues), but in the real world it's just another factor in getting the power you want.

The best part is than the gen 2 truck engine uses the old Windsor HO, Mod, Cleveland firing order. Which makes it sound much better than the Mustang coyote. But it also means no… Camshafts are not interchangeable between the two unless you’re going to make some serious changes.

While it’s true that coyotes make more power per unit of displacement, they seem to be less compact than traditional pushrod engines. And really, what we care about is the engine size and weight required to produce the same amount of power, I think pushrods such as ls or hemis are better in this regard

You are wrong if you think the 5.0 is better than the LS . The LS with just bolt ons smokes 5.0 bolt ons. The only way the coyote motor keeps up with the na LS builds is boost. Obviously you've never seen the LS Coyote build-off they gave him a $10,000 budget and the coyote still could not be the LS motor

I'm a Chevy guy, but I would have to disagree with you. The 5.0 Coyote has more power potential than the LS in pretty much complete stock form, with intake, tune, and e85. No rods, cams, or heads needing swapped for more performance.

@@michaeldawson2661 And what exactly is wrong with the pushrod engine? Oxygen has been around much longer than pushrod engines yet you still breathe it. Sometimes keeping things simple and affordable has it's benefits. I do love the Coyote engine but have been burned by Ford cutting corners before. (5.4 Triton cam phasers and broken spark plugs). Even my 4.6 2v left me stranded when it's plastic intake decided to crack and empty it's cooling system at 86k miles (another horrible design to save a few bucks). I'm not a "fanboy" of any one manufacturer. I try and see the good in every design but when a company can do something better and looks the other way for profit it hurts a little more. I'll wait a bit longer this time around before changing my opinion on the old pushrod design.
