DC is great, One of the few ex F1 drivers who doesn't big himself up, Actually he comes across to me as being hard on himself about his F1 achievements, I supported DC back in the day, He did a great job, Ricciardo is such a likeable fella, His financial future is secure as i reckon he will transition to the commentary side of F1 like Brundle and DC did. Also Rosberg doe's a good job IMO when he is invited in to commentate.

First comment. Wow! I feel for Danny Ric. He was quick at Red Bull and I think Renault he peaked. I really like him but I feel that as a driver he could not adapt to the new formula and for me a top driver in F1 must be able to do that as David said. It is however a real shame that RB could not do a proper sendoff for an academy driver of theirs that was a multiple GP winner. RB can be so heartless sometimes with their own investments.

RIC was also quite affected by the death of Antoine Hubert and I remember him saying in an interview after Spa that he was basically asking himself if it's all worth it. That, along with Alonso-like luck when switching teams, time off, injury, and just the wear and tear of F1 has to add up to a less than preferred exit from the sport.

I also wonder what on earth happened to DR at Mclaren. From the onboard footage / pedal cam of the Mclaren in recent years it looks like the brake has a lot more travel than you would expect. I wonder if something technical like that could have played into his sudden inconsistency as CH talked about bad habits he picked up and theoretically speaking from someone that only knows sim racing and track days, it might make sense why Mclaren hold an advantage through mid corner in this gen.

Ricciardio was in the Toro Rosso or whatever it's called in case Perez fell through. Now that they've figured out that Perez was actually on to something, or they reached the limit of this car without making it undrivable... There's no place for Ricciardo with Liam Lawson - I don't think it comes down to DR losing anything, it's just they need a place for Liam and Yuki is at the same pace as DR. I haven't watched the full interview, but I think it's important to remember how fast this sport can change. Back in 2019, 2020 it was Nico Hulkenberg getting shown up by DR eventually leaving and coming back. The only difference is that he hasn't got anything lined up and there's more interest in young talent. Hopefully he gets Abu Dhabi to say goodbye in the short term.

I felt the same way. I felt that the red bull car was slowly but surely going to this cliff that they fell off and Checo has been repeatedly telling them about it but now it's too late. Which also is a testament to how good Max is being able to drive around the problems of the car and still achieve results. And to think that Checo is pulling a midfield result out of a car that's so undriveable is actually a commendation. I don't think Danny with how much he's dropped off since leaving Renault would even be able to get into Q3.

I believe Ricciardo was mentally burnt out when he left RB for Renault in 2018. In interviews at the time, there was something that seemed "lost" despite his usual gregariousness. No . According to every pundit , ex driver , ex owner etc etc all you ever hear is F1 is a brutal , cut throat business . Being a good guy shouldn't mean he gets treated any differently . His performances haven't been anywhere near good enough , so a decision was taken . Could the process have been handled in a more professional way .. for sure . But the harsh reality is DR wasn't cutting it anymore . He isn't the first " nice guy " to be shown the exit & he won't be the last . No doubt he will go away , lick his wounds & be behind the wheel in some form of motorsport in the future . Good luck to him 🤞🏻

@@Melbourne-s4xits not my criteria .. that is the way in F1 . Points are everything for the team & if you aren't performing you are normally gone . Tsunoda & Zhou are probably hanging on to their seats because F1 needs to keep their respective home fans / nations engaged in the sport . Bottas is another who is less than impressive after a respectable career & should be out . But the most obvious is nepo baby Stroll , but i'm not sure his father has the b&lls .. yet !! F1 is always about the next young gun & if a driver isn't keeping the car out of the barriers or finishing in the top ten on a regular basis they are usually looking over their shoulder at who is waiting in the wings . My take on Liam's strengths and weaknesses as someone who has followed his career closely since his first F2 season: Firstly, I agree that his biggest strength is his adaptability. As far as racecraft goes, he is excellent in defence, close/wheel-to-wheel racing, has performed some amazing overtakes, and is pretty good at tyre management. As for weaknesses, I think his biggest letdown (aside from luck) has been qualifying. There's a reason he had a bunch of sprint wins but none in feature races in F2 and that's because he almost always qualified roughly 4th-8th which put him in a great spot for the reverse top ten sprint races but not the features. He would most often move several spots up the order but always had too far to go. Similar in Super Formula. Only one pole position but several race wins. If he can sort that out, I think he'll do very well.

How ironical it was that it was Piastri, the driver that replaced him at Mclaren, who had hit the wall and DR had to avoid him and instead chose to hit the wall himself. That injury and absence certainly did not help his comeback. But to be real, he had lost that edge and the car did not allow his late overtaking style to reappear. But he certainly deserved a better send off by RB. The fan backlash in Melbourne next year will be very interesting as there is a lot of heat down under about the poor handling of his exit.

Making excuses already??? Hahaha. All the new rookies have looked better than Liam did last year. He does have the upgrades and new engine Daniel didn't get even though he brought the sponsorship Liam couldn't - so in effect paid for Liam's new car.

He had plenty of chances really, more than most. Mclaren gave him plenty of chances, really if Ron Dennis was in charge in 2021, he would have sacked Daniel after lando lapped him at the monaco gp. Redbull took him back and gave plenty of time to him but has shown absolutely nothing.

Are you really worried that F1 is going to be an engine formula again in 2026 like it was in 2014? It seems odd that the regs change when the racing gets interesting for very little reason.

Danny Ric lost his seat but never announced his retirement, But F1 as a sport started to retire in him from the sport. They did him wrong for headlines

I don't think he deserved anything more than he got. Fans liked him, yes. But its F1, the same wasn't done with Logan got the boot or Nicolas or others. Only when they retired like Seb or Kimi. If you get the boot, than you got the boot. Simple as that.

@@Melbourne-s4x and you're mis reading what I wrote. I'm not knocking his talent but I am saying he didn't retire like Seb or Kimi, he got the boot like Logan and Nicolas so why should he get any special treatment if he got the boot? If he retired sure roll out the carpet but Danny Ric couldn't hack it anymore and got replaced. Its not the same as Seb or Kimi saying I'm done. But it is exactly the same as Logan and Nicolas.
