In an interview a few weeks ago, Montoya, who has never been a Checo fan, said that by looking at the onboards of Max and Verstappen, it was obvious Max's car could do the corners and Checo's didn't, that his car behaved like an Aston Martin. And also mentioned the oddest thing was Redbull being so non-chalant about it. They didn't seem worried, with their history of hearlessly sacking deivers that don't perform, they renewed Checo while in bad streak for more two years. This is what happens when new engineers poached from other teams start "upgrading" an existing design. Newey had blocked multiple upgrades from being implemented. He leaves, upgrades come on and the RB20 is a desaster. Checo's been struggling at RB cuz its a toxic single driver focused environment.

It was changed to include differential in braking pressure applied to either side of the axle and brake rotor/disk, mate..... there was a rule in place and teams may or may not have been exploiting the previously existing wording of that rule.

I think it has to do more with driving styles. Street tracks have more 90 degree, narrow turns which favors Checo's driving style. Checo is a slower corner, understeer favor type driver. He drives off the rear tires. Max is the complete opposite. A long corner driving style. Takes more speed into corners with a pointy, favoring a more oversteering setup. Relies more on the feel of the front end/front tires. Thats why at/after Miami, the car started understeering like crazy, he lost all his pace. Now with the terrible setup of the RB car being and understeer monster, that favors Checo's diving style. Being that Checo favors understeer driving, he's more comfortable at or pushing the limits. Ill bet Checo will out qualify and place a head of Max at the Singapore GP, if the RB team can give him the same car he had last weekend.

Not exactly. The RB20 is so unstable it oversteers in one corner AND understeers in the next. Many of the cars on the grid are now prone to this - it's just the other teams have done a better job of keeping a good balance. If you fix the car that makes it more stable for Checo to drive, it also makes it more stable for Max to run off to the sunset.

I think this highlights a problem in F1 in general. I understand the budget caps were put in place to try to level the playing field betepween the teams, but the reality is they havent really dont that at all, and have mostly just made the seasons boring and predictable. If a team gets it right from the start, they will likely have an advantage for a long time as other teams are limited in what they can upgrade between races. Then by the middle of the season if they still aren't close, or in this case with RB if they have messed it up completely, then they may just give up and concentrate on development of the next years car rather than wasting resources chasing ghosts. This season has really been a bit of a freak that there have even been multiple teams competing for the win at some tracks. 2021 was the only other time in the last 10+ years we have seen genuine competition, and that is mostly because if you start behind, you most likely stay behind for the entire season. Which isn't exactly great for the fans, is it? 🤷‍♂️

Reverting the car would just make it slower is the likely reason. While it is a monstrosity to drive now, it is still faster than it was at the start of the season. Also, since the start of the season, the other teams have all improved on their cars. If Red Bull were to remove the upgrades, it would likely make them slower than they are now relative to their competitors.

If we're blaming the brakes... what can explain the loss of pace on those four races? And how do we explaing Max's second place in Zandvoort with supposedly new brakes so-bad-he-can't-drive-anymore? I mean, braking system can have his share in the whole situation, but I don't think it is the only reason. Looks more like, a sustained bad developement of the car, to wich Max cannot adapt anymore, worsened by the new braking system. Max Verstappen is having troubles with the car since Austria. That's four races before the summer brake, when the braking systems were redefined by FIA. Then, after that, Max got 2nd place in Zandvoort. So, I don't see a direct correlation between the two things. A good pilot can't do miracles in a bad car, and the RB20 has been having troubles that just got so bad, that arelady catched Verstappen.
