you left the timing belt very loose... you need to apply tention with your left hand as you tighten the pully tentioner....

Good call. This motor was toast and I missed that. It's since been abandoned in my floor for over a year. 😆

Thanks for showing! I have a truck sitting in my driveway that needs a lot of work, hopefully it’s one of my next projects and your videos are helping a lot!

Really was suspect on how easy that looked! Thank you!

Yeah everything else I've seen was extremely confusing involving so many more steps, this seems to make sense but it just seems too easy compared to all the other how to ive seen

Bravo. You are true to your word! Thank you, Thank you. It is nice to watch an F6a Timing belt replacement that is English. I am looking forward to the water pump replacement, but really, how hard can that be?
@AnythingWheeled2 жыл бұрын
You're welcome! I usually hear people do their water pump especially if the age of it is unknown because it is literally right there. It's easier to do it at the same time as preventative than to have to back in here to do it again. However in this particular vehicle yes it's extra work but it's not *that much* work I suppose you could pass on it. It may matter if you pay someone to do the work for you as the labor rates would add the timing job. Water pump should just be clean off the area, remove the bolts holding the pump, dump more coolant everywhere and clean the gasket surface to replace everything. More on that coming soon. Sad that the SOHC and DOHC have a slightly different water pump though so I can't use the one I already got before I decided to Carryccino build.

Just mark the mail tooth o the belt and the emal cog on each pully and also I would change water pump.

Look pretty much like my samurai timing belt set up was done.

Be sure to check it after 10,000km. As the tensioner is not self tensioning the belt will stretch and at high revs skip. It happened to me, belt was replaced in Japan and I didnt check it, at about 12,000km it skipped and I was sucking air through the exhaust and pushing out through my intake!
@AnythingWheeled2 жыл бұрын
Wow good point! The tensioner is in a fixed position after the bolt is tightened. Theoretically 10-15ftlb isn't much and it *could* move but it's not likely. However in my case if you see at the end there the oil pan is full of iced coffee or milk tea whatever your drink may be :)

I like to use anti-seize when I install a pulley. Stops rust.
@AnythingWheeled Жыл бұрын
Makes sense. I'll probably do that next time on my DOHC F6As since this one is toast anyways.

Can you link us the video on where you showed us how to replace the water pump?

I haven't done it yet. Maybe in a few months from now.

This is it? I read some forums, and watched videos in another language, all show so many steps, such as removing the valve cover, going to the flywheel to check timing, timing the distributor, just to change the timing belt, if this is all it takes, why are these other people making it so confusing?
@AnythingWheeled Жыл бұрын
The marks are on the cogs and they are keyed to only go in one way. Why would you have to go inside to check the cam lobes and stuff to verify TDC? Some people also mark the top of the gears with the backplate or something with a paint pen to help line everything back up easier. This was my first time and it's as simple as this. I was confident enough I didn't do the paint pen. Sure you can take all the stuff apart to check it but I wasn't going to at this time. The only thing to add is maybe replace the water pump while you're in here but in this truck it's so easy to get to it's not a big deal to get to it again. (I also dodged this because I had a blown headgasket on this motor)

where were you able to source the tensioner and the timing belt?
@AnythingWheeled2 жыл бұрын
I either bought it from Yahoo auctions Japan via the buying service buyee or contacting Rob @ etsuryu.com. I forget I buy a lot of crap. 😂 However locally sourced in the US maybe G&R imports has parts?
