Just bought one of these at the start of my semester. With the medium nib probably my favourite fountain pen to write with.

The best of this pen is that it solved the cracking issue with the "rubberized" grip section of the Basic (had myself 2 of them replaced by FC without cost, still a poor design I would not want to keep using). Pen is great, and aluminium does not tend to crack.

Wait, that front part of the pen that has that fake rubber, that literally fell off the second I used it 😂
@olafspeier98972 жыл бұрын
@@oliverperkinso3755 Well, my Essentio´s grip section is made of aluminium, no rubber to be found. Have had it for over a year, no problem so far.

I own this pen (EF) and if I remember correctly you cannot fit 2 cartridges, the barrel is a bit too short. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for the review Stephen...and for the slippage comment. Good to know and certainly something not often mentioned in your reviews.

I've always liked their steel nibs, but I wish that for once they could design a usable grip section for my slippery fingers. The Basic was alright but not very durable and the Loom was extremely slippery for me. While the Essentio is thoughtfully ribbed, in this case, that will not be enough for my pleasure. Perhaps a slight curve to the shaft or some vein-like surface texture is in order.

If you want a simple, elegant and beautiful metal pen with amazing grip you should check out the fountain pen by MUJI. The grip is metal but made out of a surface that is similar to a nail filer so it grips to you hand even if it is wet or sweaty.

Would be great to use that pen for taking lecture notes, that pop noise is sure to get you noticed in a good way, probably bump you up a whole letter grade. Another one with that pop is the Noodler's Boston Safety pen...I actually can't remember if you have done a review of that one

I have this pen with the rubberized grip. It cracked, Faber replaced the grip but the replacement is developing cracks as well. It’s too bad because I love this pen. I have the Loom and Hexio, both are great pens, if the grip on this is now metal I think I’ll get a new one.

I recently bought a pair of Basics, the rubberized sections of both developed hairline cracks at the nib end almost instantly. My guess/hope is that this new all-metal design addresses this shortcoming.

They're the smoothest nibs on poorly made pens. They crack and it's a gamble whether or not you'll get one that will accept an ink converter.

Amazing review!All of their instruments are amazing, i use this pen in shinny silver and also the 4600 mechanical pencils and accesories and they are very good!I do a lot of graphics, i love sport style fountain pens, i do not see myself using an Pelikan 600, 800, 1000, or the big pens, i do like a lot M205, Pilot pens, anything from Faber Castell and Lamy too....I like to have aproximatelly same nib size for precission, it was an transition from pencils with various degrees expecially B scale, to something that can handle lines in adding liniature and valour without getting erased from the paper...I started with Rotring Isograph pens which are amazing and i do use them too and also 800+ pencil, but i found out that the nibs are having definently a confidence feel when i use them on different granulation paper....I love taking care of them and i do reallly believe that the technology can't take the place of the holly writting instruments, musical instruments and so on....An extremelly hightech printer is unable to do on the paper what the nib is creating and i do hate synthetizers that "took place" of the electric and acoustic/classical guitar, it is room for all of them, i do not understand at all the new generations, even that i'm not so old....

I have the previous chrome body version with the plastic cap. Essentio looks like a metal variation on that theme. How broad is the broad nib? 1.0 or 1.5?.

Hi Stephen--I only buy pens that post. Reason: when traveling I need a safe place to put the cap. Going under the airline seat in front...once, but never again. Agreed, of course, the pen is probably too long for aesthetic/practical comfort.

I know this is kinda old video, how is the weight of essentio compared to basic. I still have basic, I am thinking of getting the essentio. But I want to make sure I am not getting another heavy pen that I only write a line or two with.

Amazon is full of reviews that the Essentio has a plastic middle part that easily breaks. Seams a shame that they built and sell this pen as a metall pen and then they built in plastic that easily breaks. Those bad reviews about breaking plastic part are from 5 years old to 2021. I wished they would've changed how they built it.
@azzgunther2 жыл бұрын
The Essentio used to be called the Basic and had the cracking issue, as well as rubber grips that degraded. The pen was altered and the name changed to Essentio. The issues are no longer present, to my knowledge.
@lelandfitz17622 жыл бұрын
@@azzgunther Thanks for your comment. I will look into it. Its just a problem, that sellers on Amazon often use the old name or dont change the descriptions for their products. My stationary stores all dont sell them so I cant try them out anywhere close.
@azzgunther2 жыл бұрын
@@lelandfitz1762 Yeah, Amazon is tough to navigate in many ways. I've got an Essentio and am here to see what SBREBrown had to say about it. I definitely recommend considering one, if the design appeals to you. The build quality is good and the nib is really nice.
