Thank you SOOOO much for making ALL of these videos for the skin tones. I have the fiber castle, prismatic color and am half way then to having all of the black widow color pencils. I am so thankful you made these videos! They are a huge help to me ( and I’m sure others) in the process of me teaching myself how to do color portraits. I was struggling with trying to find the right colors to blend together. You have been a HUGE help so THANK YOU 😊 have a wonderful blessed day :)

Fantastic tutorial. Thank you Claire. These tones will be super useful for me, not only for skin but for a range of different textures such as wood or brick etc. I found the prismacolour blends really very helpful too. Many thanks.

I haven't colored any faces in my current books because I felt quite intimidated. Thank you for this, and also for giving the full range of tones.

I like that your technique is different. Many people go light to dark and then burnish dark to light for a finish. I do the same thing you do for blending: going back and forth rather than little circular motions. However, everyone seems to agree that you need a sharp point on your pencil at all times. Just upgraded to Polychromos and I love them. Good fit for how I color.

Thank you for the skin tone chart. I’ve been coloring with Copics longer than the Polys, so I tend to follow the Copic way: the lightest tone over the whole area, then add the medium color to start your shadows. Then add your darkest color where needed. The final step is to take the lightest color and cover the whole area again. It helps with the blends and makes it a smoother transition from one color to another, Just my humble opinion. I know everyone has their own way, but I thought I’d share this way.

This is fantastic! I am going today to grab a few more colors, and this is super helpful. Your blends are amazing. Who cares how other people do it - the “rules” all had to come from somewhere, but no one said you have to follow them! 💜

Thanks for this nice tutorial. A little correction. The number for Ivory is 103 and not 105. The name of pen number 132 is “Beige red” and not “Light Flesh”

Will definitely be giving these a go, thank you Claire! I've been using the same combos for skin for a while now, it will be nice to have a play with your combinations. And I'm grateful for the dark skin combos, as I've not been able to come up with one myself that I like 😊 xx

I actually love that you said the Polychromos blend like a Dream. Normally People tend to say the Opposite, but i always found them to blend seamlessly. But then again i use the same technique as you (dark to light in most cases and strokes instead of circles). Only Difference is i use no pressure at all, thus i spend more time on a blend. Might be giving your technique a try. :D Being fast and good would be fantastic. Btw, i use Dark Flesh as a Blush and Lip Colour if i want a natural Look. It's perfect for this.

Claire, you are an absolute gem; you have no idea how helpful this is going to be to me! I've recently been trying to come up with new skintone ideas as, like you, I tend to use the same one all the time and it gets boring. And I could never get dark skin right, so I can't wait to give some of your combinations a go! Loving all your suggestions for all the different pencil brands so far. May I request the Artezas or Spectrum Noir Colourblends, as they are the only pencil sets I own that you haven't already covered? 😊 Thank you as always for your kind and thoughtful videos and for all the work you put into them; they really are appreciated by me and, I'm sure, each and every one of your subscribers ❤️🤗

Dear Clair, thank you very much for your videos on skin tones, they are extremely useful and really help you to understand the general idea and just start doing it. What I wanted to ask is: have you got a video where you colour a portrait with Polychromoses? It would be really helpful to see how these blends and combos actually work.
@ColourwithClaire4 жыл бұрын
I only have a speed colouring with Polychromos at the moment, I will try to do a proper one. X

These colors are great for real skin but what would you use for like a fantasy skin tone such as a elf or fairy?
@diniahnightshade11115 жыл бұрын
Speaking as one who has this curse, what would be your suggestion for someone who is nearly ghost pale (zero suntone to skin lol) pale? The ivory and light flesh would be workable, but that cinnamon MIGHT be useful for adding freckles, but it's actually too dark for the shadows unless they are very very dark shadows. I've actually found a very very light touch of lavender in the shadows is closer to the actual skin colour. Any suggestions would be great
@ColourwithClaire5 жыл бұрын
I would recommend ivory, light flesh and lavender - just leave the darker shadows out x
