He’s such a great teacher / presenter !!! Fab Filter has definitely changed my life as a “student of sound”. 🤘🤩✌️

Every time I watch one of these videos Dan gives away some real jewels. This is the first eq that I've owned that I feel comfortable making many and sometimes dramatic alterations with. I took my izotope Alloy and used the same numbers and q settings and man I must say the results were not even close. The fabfilter stuff is so transparent, sharp, and punchy. I know I sound like a fan boy but if you don't believe me just download the demo and you'll see what I mean.

As a new Pro-Q (3) user stumbling onto this very helpful 12 year old video --- something tells me I'm a little late to discovering this powerful tool! Also, hearing 12 years of difference in Mr. Worrall's voice is incredible. Over the years he transitioned from scholarly audio engineer into full-on talk radio voice! :)
@neilcummins50996 жыл бұрын
6 min 14 secs...only Dan could make something as technically esoteric as "Let's see what happens when I switch the Channel Mode to Mid/Side" sound so dramatic, backed by the tense guitar riff.What an enigmatic and expressive voice.

In the past two years I have recommended this video numerous times for its exceptional presentation of mirror EQ. I wanted to quickly thank Dan for this "jewel of KZbin," since the universal application of this presentation is absolutely priceless to anyone new to using an EQ in general (which is rare when an underlying product is at the fore). Mirror EQ, acoustic microscope, frequency masking, mid-side application... all in 10 minutes!!

Honestly, I've been doing mixing/tracking/etc. for YEARS, and I have to say, your tutorials are top notch. Absolutely (re above) - not only do I echo the comments of funkulankula but these are probably the best presented tutorials I have come accross online for anything! I learn a lot of stuff from tutorials online and most are OK but these certainly stand a head or two above the rest. Well thought out and a nice clear and even tone of voice that I didn't have to keep rewinding ! DW you're an unsung hero.

I have to second the opinion of so many others. Brilliant EQ-tutorial, I probably learnt more about the ins and outs of soundshaping with EQ in these 10 minutes than I ever did, reading articles in various mags and watching other tutorials. Great way to advertise a product as well. I will definitely purchase Pro-Q as soon as my budget is not so strained. I'll probably go for the total bundle, even. Kudos.

The Mid/side-thing is super useful. Today i helped a friend to make a mash up from an old rock song and a rap song. The rock song had the guitar panned completely to the left, so i dipped the mid range's side stuff and enhanced its mid-stuff to make the guitar come to the middle while not effecting the cymbals' width
@richardclingman60228 жыл бұрын
I would LOVE to see you do another version of this using Q2 and the individual band solo buttons to actually hear SPECIFICALLY how solo assists in identifying the frequencies you're choosing. Still, this is the best mixing EQ I've seen and I've seen quite a few. Love the Mid-Side tips. Great stuff. Thank you Dan.

I've been trying out this EQ compared to the waves "Q" eq (Q1, Q2, etc). I've seen a lot of comments saying fabfilter will replace waves, and as much as I would like that, do some comparisons before ditching your waves... I have tried a simple test with 3 points in pro-Q compared to waves Q3, with the exact same settings, and the Q3 just sounds better and more transparent. Now what the pro-Q is great at, and beats waves by miles, is for surgical problem-solving, especially with the mid - side settings wich is a life-saver. I have rapidly solved problems that were impossible to fix with waves.

I wish from Fab Filter in the next update dynamique EQ´s features in lets said Pro-Q-3 to put the icing on the cake ;-) i own lots of waves stuff and really after buying the Fab Filter Bundle all my Waves are in sale. i never use them anymore.

Super nice trick on the Mid/Sid low mid for the guitars ! Anyway, the low-cut on the vocals is quite too much if the vocal sounds already too "thin" without it. There are some harmonics and resonances in the low frequencies that are good for the vocal sometimes (around 100 hz). So cutting like that wont help to fatten the vocal track. Even when reducing the high freq for reducing the "s" is also dangerous since there are a lot of more informations in those freq than "s". It's where a lot of female vocal clarity sits. A dynamic EQ (De-esser) would have probably been a better choice (even if it's a video related to EQ). And I have one question, when doing the mixbus EQ, why not chosing the maximum linear latency instead of the medium one ? Thx.
