Great thing about FabFilter is you don't just get great plugins, but you get such comprehensive tutorials with them, I've learnt so much from you guys, still trying to get my head round M/S Eqing though, scared to mess with mono transfer image.

Was looking around for some decent EQ/Filters and have been recommend FabFilters. Started poking around the site and found the Timeless video and was curious, cause you can never have enough delay (old Shoegazer) and then I discover this Mastering Tutorial. I owe you a pint or nine. You've described techniques in about 10 words that I've had explained to me a million other ways. Dan, you are indeed "The Man". My savings account is now being subverted to FabFilterSaveUp account. Thanks.

I really want to echo that this is a truly excellent guide, and yes one of the best I've seen in terms of presentation style, detail, pace & tone. Since it's working with great quality music, you can get a great idea of the results achievable. I'd been looking for something I could recommend to fledgling producers and this is IT! Thanks

@SoundGauge the trick with sub bass, is less is more.. a decent sub will pick up the B-line, too much volume will interfere wit other things. I would advise you to learn about side-chaining ducking to the kick drum. They share some of the same frequencies, by using that technique you give them space and they adjust dynamically. The lowest I've heard a tune go down to is 17hz.. which is charley DnB mix by prodigy, in the middle 8 .. BUT that is the only sound playing .

Can I ask if you would advise mastering the final stereo mix like you have rather than doing so with the individual stems? You mention you like the "shine" at 9:35 yet it causes overly bright crashes meaning a compromise must be made. Couldn't this be combated in the earlier stages of the mix before all the instruments are glued into one sound where you can master every component individually?
