Do yourself a favor and look how much money is currently spent on the homeless problem (it is around 1 billion dollars) and objectively ask yourself if it is resolving the problem. Let me guess… you voted for Mike Bonin. He’s done a “great” job addressing this problem.

First I will answer your question by telling you what I would not do: bring a team of park rangers, police, sanitation workers to only forcibly move them so that they end up getting moved again a week later. This is a total waste of money and does nothing to improve the homeless person’s predicament. I would have a team of social workers evaluate every homeless person there is a need to come in contact with. Notice I said need. Those who don’t cause a public nuisance would not be approached. There will be a small group that are mentally disabled/unstable. This group goes to a state institution. They will have access to showers, food, and shelter. … much more humane than letting them sleep on the street and eat out of garbage cans. A larger group are those who are drug addicted. They will be required to have 6 month drug rehabilitation and subsequent job training based on their skill level and interest. If they fall off the boat, mandatory 10 year jail sentence. For a group who are not addicted but choose the lifestyle, they will be put in communities with tiny homes and be assigned jobs to keep these communities in order. If they willfully don’t follow and or blatantly disobey rules, mandatory 10 year jail sentence. There are of course gray areas which there is not enough room to get into here. Bottom line is this is an incentive and opportunity based solution. They are given the opportunity to keep their living conditions or improve them. This is a much better way to spend the billion dollars that is currently spent.

@@patboggio3193 you do realize a governor can’t say, hey I want this or that law and poof it’s law right? It takes a whole lot of people to come up with legislation this bad and courts etc to back it up. It’s not the fault of one person. The co author of the legislation has said his intentions were to help the mentally ill, but it ended up hurting the whole state. The whole country seemed to follow suit, they need to open them back up and lock these people up. They need help.
