My step brother was a park ranger in San Diego for 18 years. One day when he was on patrol he got into a scuffle with an angry homeless woman. She filed a complaint and he was suspended without pay pending an investigation and employment hearing. After 18 months waiting for the hearing he got fed up and gave up his career and fully funded pension. I later worked with a San Diego Police Detective who knew my step brother and was shocked at how the California State Government treated him. Two years later this Police Detective went through the same situation but because of his union representation he was able to retire with his pension.

@@hollygolightly7475 They were hired because they were tolerant people. They they are trained to de-escalate tense situations. Every interaction is recorded by their body cameras. And if they react with even the slightest anger or perceived hostility toward the homeless they will be suspended without pay until the states park service human resources board renders a decision. The decision can take as long as two years. Most people can't last without a job for that long so very few suspended park rangers return to their prior job.

I grew up on Venice Beach. I was there every day body surfing with my friends and it was an amazing time for me on a very clean beach and just one or two homeless people. That beach was my favorite place to be and I spent some very special memories with my beloved friend Patrick who is no longer with us. I miss him and how Venice Beach used to look, smell and feel. I am so lucky I had that opportunity. So sad it’s come to this. 😢

I'm astonished at the crap they want to save like the person wanting the piece of cardboard and caution tape, the gray haired guy with so many things on a shopping cart and pushing a bicycle to where he cannot see over the mountain of junk piled up.How about the other woman with the end table, vases and rugs. You would deduct that less is more.It seems they invest their time and efforts into hoarding garbage then act with disdain about having to pack it up.If your homeless maybe have just a backpack and a sleeping bag.Sun comes up roll up your sleeping bag and leave. These folks really set up shop on the beach as if their decorating a living room.Mental health, alcohol and drug use seem to ooze out of these people.Im so glad the police, garbage dept.,social services are on this.

All this under a blanket that says, “Best Grandma Ever.” Seriously, though, I want a video showing how people get SO MUCH STUFF onto the beach without transportation. The guy has a grocery cart but “grandma” appears to be on foot with a coffee table, too. If they would only accept help. People who claim personal use of drugs don’t hurt anyone are stupid; drugs ruin the lives of people on the edge like this woman. And what about the kid? Welfare should be checking out his situation.

Immagine having your stuff ripped down 100 plus times. Crazy world. They said they love her and they rip down her tent that taxpayers buy her every week for the last 100 weeks. She's having a healthy reaction to the abuse she's experiencing. She's definitely not crazy. Im pretty sure this happened to the native americans and hundreds of indiginous tribes.

Isn’t it sad how homeless addicts live? The lady in the beginning at the beach reminds me of a relative when he’s been using meth, ranting erratically. I’m so happy to see Venice Beach cleaning up the beach so that everyone can enjoy! Since California just allowed cities to clean up homeless encampments, this is happening in different cities!

The government provides billions in taxpayer $$$$ into the welfare and social services programs so that taxpayers don't have to put up with this in our public spaces. The womans' profanity and attitude are likely a large reason she's unemployed. Nobody is owed anything, and nothing is free. If you try you can improve your lot in life. But it takes effort.

"City settlers"- many have settled and many more generations will forever arrive to settle. Historically we always have been and always will be a nation of city settlers - who pioneer and pioneered the ingenuity of communities across America-to accommodate many more settlements-and house many more future generations to come. Settlement and the will of the people established the foundation of the U.S. government.

We need to implement compassionate toughness. Allowing people to turn our public spaces into trash heaps is not acceptable. But, without some help to get on a better path, most of these people won't be able to change. These people deserve the opportunity to be helped because they're our fellow humans. But they also need to understand that society operates by certain rules that must be followed to reap the benefits of that society.
