Michele needs to visit 'Vice Grip Garage' to get some pointers on (re)naming parts. Headers and disc brakes are a must and maybe fuel injection to avoid carburetor woes. New front end parts to be added as needed to give it that squeaky new feel.

I like classic car mods that could have been done when the car was new. Headers and disc brakes existed at the time, so I'm totally fine with these changes. I'm also totally fine with the owner of a car doing whatever the hell he wants with his own car, so the critics can go pound sand. 😂

As far as I'm concerned headers and disc brakes are a good change on any car that is going to be driven.

I do agree with what you said for the most part. I will say upfront, i don't have any issues with these upgrades. I definitely wouldn't change the powertrain. The only reason i don't like changing too much on a car like that is, i just don't like to see the nostalgic & classic collectors aspect going down the tubes with some modifications. These older Firebirds that are original like this one are definitely going to be in high demand by collectors, especially since GM stopped making Firebirds. Have you priced what a 1978 Firebird Trans Am is going for these days? Over $41,000 for a car that is stock & in mint condition. I know Paul doesn't have any intentions on selling this car, frankly i wouldn't sell either. The thing is, getting as popular as FabRats is becoming on KZbin, serious collectors will definitely here about the car, keeping it as close to stock as possible will make him appeal more favorably to serious collectors & could eventually lead to more sweet deals & "barn finds" like this one. I love watching this channel because of the clean down to earth home type atmosphere. He definitely finds some sweet deals, & great potential in some cars.

My buddy somehow came across an original Shelby and parked it outside at his parents house. Warm weather turned to COLD weather. He wanted to just show us what it would do, so he fired it up and pulled it out onto the road. After letting the engine “warm up” for maybe thirty seconds (after letting it sit outside in below freezing temps for several weeks), he proceeded to tack it up and do a hefty burnout. I died inside. When Paul did the burnout with this Firebird, my thoughts instantly went back 30+ years to that lousy winter day and felt my stomach churn (again).

I was thinking about the generational leap in shop and tools. Paul learned with his dad's tools on dirt and jackstands. Then went to shop and lifts. With the interest the kids are showing, I wonder where they will take it? Thanks Paul and Michelle. If you are going to have children, pay attention to them, spend time, be consistent, have a plan (maybe even write it down). It will be worth it.

@@BikingVikingHH I'll pass along a piece of info I heard from Jordan Peterson. If it makes you feel complete, happy, joyous, fullfilled... notice it. It is what you are built to do. Find a life that allows you to work that direction every day. I have told my kids to figure out who you are and be the best you possible. I didn't tell them how to figure out who they are (they are doing pretty well) but JP's advice will get them farther along and help them narrow it down. Do what you can today and make a list for tomorrow and the future. I also add, find out who your cheerleaders are and keep them around (even if it is by phone). Hang around people you learn things from. Learn from the past, don't live in it. Try something positive and new every chance you get (notice an invitation).

TaaDaa! All went well until she couldn't get the "git by" to work. She called his work crying, cause she was a bit frustrated. His boss told him to go home and help her. Any man that has a wife that will pull an engine for him had better get home and treat her right!! Oh yeah, the "git by" turned out to be the electric chain hoist! He did get to race that night. God bless ya'll! And thanks for the memories!

Disc brake conversion makes sense. I have a 63 Ford Galaxie 427 that had drums and no power assist. . The thing weighs almost 4000 pounds exactly with a full tank of gas. You needed to make an appointment to stop the thing. Converted it to front discs. Made all the difference in the world even with no power. For safety, also added a dual pot master cylinder. Unless you are doing AACA stuff, no reason not to do things for safety/better driveability. The drums and the original master cylinder are boxed up to go with the car when the time comes. Added a Detroit Trutrac as well.

The whole under carriage and body are in almost new condition, amazing for being that old. Freiburger, Hot Rod Magazine, did a dyno test before and after hammer denting headers like you did. Dyno said there was no power reduction by altering headers this way. He had more dents, than the minor dents that you did. What a great car, nice to see it in the care of a real gear head.

3.55 is a good street gear for a Pontiac. Headers are a pain in the ass on Pontiacs you made it look simple,I haven't charged any in years they may have changed the headers. My neighbor had a 67 firebird 400 4spd, he beat the hell out of it, it was fun.

Upgrades are necessary. Especially since we all love to make individual vehicles our own. Better braking, handling and definitely the rumble that comes from a even flow exhaust system is always added coolness. Regardless of what changes you make or don’t make , the car is part of your family. So enjoy the car and especially the memories that your family will build from YOUR car . God bless and definitely enjoy all the great videos y’all produce. I would rather watch channels like Fab rats versus the garbage on our TV’s .

Jim Smith----I watch a lot of television including The Rookie , The Cleaning Lady , the Good Doctor , Murdoch Mysteries , Bob & Abishola , New Amsterdam , the Amazing Race , Chicago P.D. , Wonder Years , Law and Order , Law and Order -SVU , Hudson and Rex , Home Economics , Son of a Critch , the Coroner , Big Sky , Blue Bloods , The Republic of Al , and Young Sheldon . I am curious as to which tv shows you object to ? Is it the relatively low quality of the programming , or , seeing blacks , gays , women , Muslims, and seeing mixed race couples showing up on screen in significant roles ? The world is changing . My wife and I have an excellent doctor , who is a 33 year old Muslim guy . My dentist , is a 35 year old woman , who is very skilled . My optometrist is a 33 year old Muslim woman . I don`t yet know if she is good or bad . None of these changes are working against me .

@@williameddy1662 that is your right to watch whatever you want. I prefer not to watch tv anymore. I will have to disagree with you on the world is changing theory. The World isn’t changing, people are changing due to all the things in our culture that is considered acceptable these days. Our country has been trying to remove God from our society and replacing religion with things that go against Gods word . It has nothing to do with race . We all are made in gods image. So your comment concerning anything race related is irrelevant. Now as far as gay , lesbian and transgender , well that’s real simple it’s wrong and should be addressed for what it is . I do not bash or hate people that are . But I definitely don’t agree with it . I could go on and on about these topics and more , but this is not why I watch this channel. I watch this channel because the Cox family are very humble and greatful for the blessing they receive. They produce clean quality videos that many people enjoy. I hope that answers your questions. If not I believe you will just have to continue being curious. Have a blessed day

@@jimsmith733 Well , thank you for the reply . You could just as easily have told me to " buzz off" . I like this channel a lot . I think that Paul Cox and his wife Michelle ,are truly nice , hard working people, and I love the fact that their kids are showing up in the shop helping out . I am enjoying all the off road channels including Rory Irish ( Trail Mater ) , Robbie Layton ( Robbie Layton World ) , Matt Wetzel (MORR) , and Casey Lofthouse ( CORR) . These guys mimic the very best of the DIY videos out there . They all seem knowledgeable, patient , and decent folks . We disagree on gays . I don`t think that they are any worse , or any better , than straight people . I don`t even think that they choose to be gay . My wife teaches kinder garden . She says , " At 4 -5 years of age , it is obvious what direction some of these kids are going . " They show up in all cultures and all religions . I have met some who I respected a lot , and , some who I thought were twits . Still , you responded in a polite , straight forward manner , without resorting to disparaging remarks about me , so , I thank you for your time .You have a good day .

@@williameddy1662 Your very welcome. I try to always address other people with respect. After all we all are different and have different beliefs and opinions. I seen no reason whatsoever to respond to you in a negative way. You had questions so why not respond with my answers. There’s no need in me being rude to you . I believe that’s one way of making positive change. Actually my wife is a special needs teacher , she’s been teaching for 20 + years . With all the changes she has seen in our schools, she is planning on leaving and taking on a new career. I believe children are taught those types of behaviors through many different avenues. I don’t believe anyone is born that way . So I guess the bottom line is we have different views and beliefs. That’s absolutely fine . We can never improve if we are not willing to debate our views. I also watch several of the channels you mentioned also . It’s actually a little funny that most of the channels I subscribed too and watch are located in Utah and neighboring states.

I'm still constantly having nightmares of trying to stop the car I'm driving by pushing the brake pedal as hard as I can, and the car is not stopping and slowly moving out into a busy intersection. I hate those dreams. Left over nightmares from the drum brakes days. Definitely good to change them to disk so you don't have nightmares 40 years from now!

Back in the day we stae of Commiefornia firefighters had 24,000 pound fire engines with drum brakes all around..... Scary pedals to make them stop..... Thank God those engines are now gone.... Low budget wins the day....Buy, Try, Modify, Apply

The new exhaust makes that car sound classic! The new gears and brakes will make the car safer and easier to use. I like these types of modifications. I watch Goonzquad and they always end up modifying everything even if it doesn't make any sense.
