I did the same thing to my 85 Cutlass as well. It had a factory fresh air duct hose going to the front of the car, so I added the second one. I didn't have many tools back then, so I just used a metal nibbling tool I bought at radio shack for ten bucks. Took a while but the results were good.

@@weedwacker1716 I did it in 1990. Built an Olds Small Block 403 based off a Dave Smith Oldsmobile (DSE) design and spec. Was a blast to drive year around. Left it computer controlled for the longest time, sent the Quadrajet to Carb Shop to have it worked. If I remember correctly, it was supposed to generate 410HP and 440lbs Torque at the crank. Eventually pushed my 3850lb Cutlass to 12.7 in the 1/4 mile. 1.58-160sec 60ft times.Used a 700R4, with a TCI BOP to Chevy adapter. I had someone do some port work to the heads, and he wrecked the heads. I miss that fricken car. That was just towards the end of 1992. I know I could have gone faster, I never got to use my 100HP shot of Nitrous on it. I converted the VHS tapes to videos. Grey with landau roof, and real chrome 14" steal wheels.

Two snorkels that choke down to about 1 3/4 inches before widening to fit the Air Ducts. Still going to be Asthmatic My Dads 74 LeSaber with a 455 with Q-Jet, came with the same choked up Air Cleaner. In 79 I took a Cleaner Housing from a 76 Olds with a Much Larger Opening 3 1/2" X 1 1/4" on the snorkel, and added a Second the same size. Breathed much better

you made all of those work to make a dual snorkel air cleaner that the end of the snorkels are so small and eliminate the indicators for air inlet but Century have already a type of one snorkel air cleaner that takes air from behind of the driver side indicator lamp and have special part for it!
@73to79ford
@73to79ford 4 жыл бұрын
A dual snorkel air cleaner can easily be much better than open element air cleaners at getting cooler air from outside the engine bay into the engine in hot weather and getting heated air from the exhaust in the winter for good cold weather drive ability and prevent carburetor venturi ice up in cool damp weather.

OEM air cleaner basees have indexing tabs where they sit on the carb. The stock snorkle location was too close to the front of the base to allow a second snorkle and wouldn't have looked right anyway. By moving the location it allows the snorkles to aim very close to the front inlet and allows for a straighter and cleaner looking route for the hoses.

Want a cheap way to make those graphics masks? Reach into the world of crafters, and find someone with a Cricut. A little time spent converting the graphics you want into a template file you can load into a Cricut, and you can cut out the graphics for smaller stuff like that pretty easily. If you've got one crafter/scrapbooker in your family, chances are they have a Cricut, or know someone that does. They're relatively cheap if you think you'll use one a lot.
