I'm figuring out how to do this on my 86 GMC. Your fuel filler door mechanism is a great idea! Try a modern self sealing "gas hole", then you don't have to worry about removing a gas cap.

Thanks for the video! I like this option the best and I will most likely reference this video for my filler neck solution. I had contemplated a flush mount pop up motorcycle filler in the stake pocket, but I like this even better, and there’s no extra body work.
@RalphSampson...4 жыл бұрын
I guess I was wrong. It wasn't too late to put it behind the taillight. Great job! I saw one where I guy built some sort of sliding drawer then, hinged on the left. Then, he used a modern fuel filler neck that you just push-in the gas pump nozzle through it. What you did is much simpler. Good thinking. KISS it, right? Maybe, go with the push-in style filler neck....no cap. On my 1962, I plan on putting a new custom tank under the driver, similar to what the 1953 -1955 has. The filler neck will move to just behind cab. That'll keep the fuel out of the cab and I can use the original gas tank location for storage. Now, if I can only get time and a garage to work on it!

What about a filler door cable spring popper that you could pull from the cab and have the taillight spring out a little like a filler door does on quite a few modern vehicles? Then you could avoid having to put a handle on it or having to grab the sides inside the ridge. Seems like if you don't have a spring holding it in place, it' might fall out and dangle when you stomp on it.

Yeah I should have mentioned it in the video but I can’t seem to find one of those aftermarket fill through caps with the late model Ford filler neck threads. Damn that Donald Dayton Guy! Lol But I completely agree with him word for word. You have built your truck to such a higher quality than most (including me), that to go the Jerry-Can way just didn’t fit your build nor taste. Filler Cap version 2.0 is much better! Two Cents Worth: I wonder if you could put a bit longer lens retaining screw or cool fastener in the top hole so you could grab it instead of the side of the lens? You will have to do a few good launches with a camera behind the truck to see if that light stays tight to the bed or not. Again, good....no....GREAT work!
