Yup, I knew as soon as you started doing math and 'doubling' that we'd be treated to an "AH HA" moment. Glad you figured it out. I had to look it up to understand, Google tells me that the R8 taper is a 16 deg 51 min (16.85°) axial cone, I recall that your compound is set to measure from parallel, so that would be, um, half, 8.425° or 8 deg 25.5 min. I loved your technique for getting the tap perfectly straight as you cut the threads. I wish we had gotten to see the key-way being cut. Thanks for sharing, I'm looking forward to one day working with a lathe and mill myself.
