Startling that I actually succeeded on the first attempt, barely by an RCH :)

It’s a gear from my lathe, I damaged it by crashing the tool bit one time.

Very cool and congratulations. The involute cutter sounded like it was hitting on only one side, thud thud thud thud 23:51, in time with the rotation of the spindle and the offset oscillation of the cap. Was the cutter off center or are the cutters splayed from each other so that some cut the bottom and others shave the sides?

You get a Gold Star! The arbor I have is a multi-size metric holder. The cutter is imperial and as such, it’s a few thousandths larger than the holder. So as soon as the cutter starts cutting the tool pressure moves it to one side. I tried several times to center the cutter with no success. I managed to do the operation but it it was cutting off center, thus the sound. My next video will probably be about making a cutter arbor that is precise. Thanks!

How did you know how far to advance your rotary table per cut?

So I have a Dividing Head, there’s a photo of it near the end of the video, my dividing head has twenty four reference holes on the front plate. By sheer luck, the gear I damaged also had twenty four teeth. Since 360 degrees is divisible by 24 resulting in increments of 15 degrees each cut. Thanks!
