E-177 With very little good metal left on the upper deck lid, Derek fabricates a new one for the International roadster project. Quarter panels are now finished so quarter panels and upper and lower deck lids get epoxy primed. Next episode, it's time for assembly.
To watch how Derek makes the lower deck lid, video link below.

🤓Nothing is better than a good supply of cold beer , the weather is raining and falling on the tin roof. And watching a cool dude building a hot rod. This channel is great 🍺

Impressive little bit of tin bashing. Nothing I would ever think of trying.

I just watched the video of you fabricating the rear deck lid, you must have got an A in metal shop in school! Amazing work, you my friend have golden hands. Can’t wait for the next video.

Yes thanks, I was intimidated at first but it's like all the real experts tell you it's a matter of shrinking, stretching, and forming. That's what I keep telling myself anyways!

Very interesting to see how you thought out the upper deck lid panel. I take it it’s going to have a trunk lid not a rumble seat? Thanks for your time and sharing this project. I’m really enjoying it. Cheers all the best Tim.

Yes we have an original deck lid for a trunk, no rumble. Hopefully we can use it without taking it apart to fix. We'll see!

You mentioned that after turning that final vertical lip you planished it (suspect it rippled after turning it up) I'd have guessed that giving it a light stretch at some equally spaced interval could have got it back in a more controlled way. But I'm not sure on that ..im very much a beginner. Love your work.

I actually did both. I thought the planishing would stretch more but it didn't so I took it over to the stretcher and that did the trick.

I have always heard that the spec for the early 30's Fords was for 18 gage steel, but when Henry started negotiating with suppliers to cut cost, as he always did, they kept thinning it out to meet his constant costs demands so that it mostly measured 19 gage. He liked the cost better than the spec so they were made that way. Don't know if that is old car lore or if it is actually what happened.

I've always been told that they were 19 gauge metal too.
